It's strange to see how much better defensively he is in comparison to last year even with the lockout and everything.

We are the luckiest fanbase to have this kid. Arguably the most important/best player in the league and he's only getting better. Did I mention he is flat out amazing to watch?

Averaging almost 27 minutes a night. Playing PP, PK, ES. Still PPG.

Every time I watch him, I think of the Stella Artois motto slightly modified:

"HE is a thing of beauty."

Think he may hit 50 points this year. He's a ppg, and I don't think he's playing at the top of his game.

Karlsson = Defenseman
Karlsson = Forward
Karlsson = Future Captain? ;-)

He has tons of confident, being such a floater and cool guy. Amazing to watch right now.

Hopefully he stay out of injuries.

At some point between last season and this season Karlsson became the best stickhandler in the world. He makes Kovalev like moves, but has a much higher success rate. He is skating through guys like they are standing still.

I really dont think its a stretch to have him in the argument for best player in the world right now. Im honestly wondering if we will see him win a Hart soon. People may scoff at that, but no one thought he would ever win a Norris.

Development. He did play 30 games in the Finnish Elite League during the lockout in a more defensive role (a wise decision, look where he is now) where he absolutely dominated and made opposition look like fools.

Just checked, and sure enough, he's leading all players:

As I've said before...I'm glad I was wrong about Karlsson (well, sort of wrong).

He has evolved much quicker than I ever thought he would, and his talent is on another level. I haven't watched every game in the NHL -- but I've seen most of the top teams play and right now nobody has the kind of impact on the game that Karlsson does. He should get his second Norris this year.

He is the best hockey defenseman in the world. Feels nice to say that.

Breaking up plays don't count as takeaways, and they are even more impressive than takeaways since the opposition can't enter the zone.

What a great train for your franchise you have in EK i know spezza is up for captain when alfie retires. but i would be very very surprised if they dont choose EK. With his heavy toi and confidence out there, he could be captain for years to come.

There's obviously been tons of talk about his unique offensive style over the last couple years, but his defense is what's really making me notice him now - can anybody give an example of a player who plays(/played) defense like Karlsson?

He knock guys off the puck but he positions himself to strip the puck like he already knows where they want to go/what they want to do. Which he probably does, I guess. It's a style I can't really compare to anybody else.

He will because he rarely put himself between a defender and the boards. He will get hit but he will look more like a push than anything else.

It's his dealing with forecheckers that's particularly cool - he doesn't always try to beat them too the puck, just positions himself to take it away immediately. You almost never see the Redden-esque dutiful chasing of the puck only to get slammed by the forechecker immediately.

Hate to be a downer, but in the one game I've seen with Ottawa this season, I hardly even noticed him. And that's not a good thing when you speak of someone like Erik Karlsson.

I gather he's been splendid the other games, despite not producing as much as the other top offensive defencemen?

edit: oooops, he still a ppg, haha...
