That's just Chere speculating, not him saying that he has heard Lemaire might be returning. This isn't a rumour.
"Among the rumors swirling as the Devils prepared to face the Philadelphia Flyers this afternoon at the Wells Fargo Center was the return of Jacques Lemaire out of retirement or another stint for general manager Lou Lamoriello."
I've been thinking about this whole situation for a while. If the Devils were to fire MacLean, they aren't going to hire a new coach mid-season and then let him go in the offseason to go after who they want. Lemaire is still employed by the Devils and would be their plan B. Even though some people do not want him back, it would be better than nothing. Maybe he can get this team playing better defense, closing down the lanes and pressure the puck carrier better. But I'll believe any rumor when I see it.
Doesn’t sound like John MacLean will be coaching much longer in New Jersey. While it would make sense to bring in Bob Hartley to try to get LW Ilya Kovalchuk going, the rumour Jacques Lemaire is going to come out of retirement was swirling Saturday. Hartley, who coached Kovalchuk in Atlanta, recently turned down a job with Lugano in the Swiss league.
Why would Lemaire even WANT to come back? I mean really, he's still getting paid and is basically gonna retire at the end of the year anyway...I'd rather sit on my toosh and collect my paycheck than leave Florida and a cushy job for a hopeless mess.
If it was earlier in the season maybe, but at this point there's as much chance of the Devils making the playoffs as there is of me winning a billion dollars.
