Was there a game that can be pinpointed as the one that got you into hockey? For me, we only had the basic television 'Farmervision" I believe we called it, basically got CBC, CTV and global here and those were your main choices. So of course we had the saturday night hockey, and the playoffs. (Not talking about the 50's either, this is the 90's haha)
ANYWAY the game I pinpoint as being the single game that made me a die hard hockey fan is the 1996 final, game four. I stayed up through the whole game with my sister who was a Patrick Roy fan, and when Colorado won, I immediately became a hockey fan and Colorado fan.
Can you narrow in on one game? Or was it more of a gradual thing?
Not too long ago, but then I'm a recent hockey buff- Leafs vs Flames, Mats Sundin scores his 500th goal, short handed, hat trick completing, OT winner. Will never forget it, and it's at the moment I really got into hockey.
going down two games to none and coming all the way back to sweep the next 4 was a huge dramatic storyline that pulled me in and secured my Avs love forever. before that it was just something id watch from time to time.
I've been a die hard hockey fan my whole life, I remember when I was like 5 playing hockey in my living room with a black ice hockey set I got for xmas, and growing up street hockey was a way of life, however it wasnt until about age 13 that I started following and watching nhl hockey. 2001 stanley cup final, game 7 between the Avs and Devils is the first game I can recall watching, I can picture exactly where i was that night etc, but It was the leafs run to the conference finals in '02 when I became really hooked. Up until that point I had no inclination to watch hockey on tv, but I remember following the leafs in those playoffs religiously and was the first time I felt emotional investment in a hockey game. I think I'll always picture Leafs vs Canes in spring of '02 as the birth of my love for nhl hockey
Hmm well, I was born in a hockeytown here in Sweden, and more or less grew up with my team (Färjestad). They have allways been in my life and I move through the year in cycles, preseason, regular season and playoffs. So, as many others here says, no particular game, I was indoctrinated from birth.
In the early 50's my dad, a recent European immigrant who was a soccer fan, and who didn't like hockey at all at the time, visited Montreal and his friends convinced him to go with them to watch a Habs game at the Forum. My dad was so impressed with Maurice Richard, that he became an immediate fan of Richard and the Habs. He described him as the most intense athlete he had ever witnessed. 20 or so years later, my dad put me into hockey and made sure I was a Habs fan as well. So basically that's why a kid who grew up in the Toronto area, is a huge Habs fan. I was born that way.

Tossup between SCF 1998 Wings vs. Caps and my first Flyers game vs. Stars ending up in a 3-3 tie in 1997.
When Konstantinov was awarded the Stanley Cup after his horrific car accident. I remember the game vaguely, as well as teh entire playoffs because I was about 8-9 years old, but Vladdy with the smile on his face with the Stanley Cup is just a vivid memory just like it was yesterday.
But I think actually seeing my first Flyers game was the moment I knew I would be a hockey fan for life. Just the way they played with the Legion of Doom line, Brind'Amour, Hextall, and Garth Snow (who was in net that day) just got my blood pumping and totally captivated me.
I don't have a specific game that got me into hockey, but I remember being a young boy watching Denis Savard in the mid-late 80's on the Blackhawks. Saw nearly every AWAY game on TV and was always amazed by him and his spinoramas.
