I just saw whatsatheo's compilation on Subban and the kid has some serious skills. I'm curious if anyone else has thought that maybe he would be a better forward than a defence man.
If I could get a poll to work I would have done so but oh well.
Thoughts?
Mod edit: Added a poll to this thread.

Our own Dustin Byfuglien? Well, Mike Green as been left as a D despite his skills, and Subban is used to play there. Let's keep him on D, and if he can't play there, we'll give him a try up front. Considering the group of forward we have, I doubt he would be usefull there as he won't be bringing something we don't have already.
The Canadiens are pretty stacked on their wings and if you want Subban to shine, he'll have to play in the top 2 lines, which would never happen. Also, Subban's slapper and one-timer would be under used if he played as a forward.
I think a lot of his best qualities are actually perfectly suited to defense in the new NHL. He's got speed, a good pass, a good shot, makes quick decisions and, even though he's not tall, he's strong enough to contain guys down low.
I think he is more likely to make an impact at D than at F.
Why? What's wrong with bringing some offense from the back end?
Nothing at all I suppose, but I think that if he tries too many of these fancy moves in the NHL he may get his @ss handed to him in a sling.
I see a lot of odd man rushes happening. Who knows though. It was just a thought.
I think Subban's potential is a poor man's Mike Green and that to me has more value than what he could bring up front being converted so late into his career.

And these 3 have what in common? Its funny how some people only think in terms of race.
Subban wants to play D, let him play D. Puck moving D is very important in the NHL.

Nothing stopping him from playing the point on the PP

Ehh, first, Mike Green is as white as can be.
Second, the comparison between Byfuglien and Subban is that Buff was a D that got switched to forward when he made it in the NHL, and people are talking about doing the same with PK.
It's really funny how the only person thinking in terms of race here is you.

I think Subban's potential is high enough for him to not be the "poor man" of anyone.
Defenseman.
Subban was voted hardest shot, best offensive D and second best defensive D in the eastern conference of the OHL. He has the tools to be a complete defenceman.

You're right with all of his skills the Bruins were stupid to let Bobby Orr play D.
Normally a player gets shifted to another position to do that player a favour and allow him to play at an open position
Why would we want to move a top ranked jr defense player BEFORE we see how well he does there?
Personally I feel his offensive skills compliment playing D as opposed to forward. Jumping into a rush behind the forwards is not the same as a forward trying to go around the D. It's like having an occasional extra forward in the right situation. As well, I think his slapshot is better served from the point
Anyway, let's not mess the kid up before he gets started

And he was canadian best D at the WJC. What more he needs to do to be good defensively. ? And for all his fancy moves, he'll learn new one like every good young player need to learn. Latendresse was often trying junior stuff at his first year. It's the same for every player. Except for the Ovechkin, Malkin, Crosby and cie.

First off, due to him always keeping his head up...I have never actually seen him get his ass handed to him ever. Might see him get knocked down once or twice, but he's so fast, strong on his skates and intelligent that he avoids those situations.
As for the odd man rushes....he's so fast he can get back there with ease. But for what it's worth, he has noted that he will need to tone down his game a bit for him to be successful in the NHL.
If his game translates well to the Pro game it is to the Habs advantage because it will feel like 4 forwards out there over 3, bringing a more lethal and skilled attack for teams to defend against.
