Eller gets what it means to be a Québecer.

Céline Dion or The Arcade Fire?

A simple question, some may say, but others may say, nay.

It's a completely loaded question, and they were basically asking him "Are you getting immersed into the French Canadian culture, or do you hate it?"

You can tell that he was really thinking about what he was going to say when he answered the question, he was really considering the implications of his answer. Maybe he was just being politically correct, but this guy really gets it here. He's here to stay, no doubt about it.

i'm embarrassed that he picked Celine, but I think you're reading too much into it

Arcade Fire is a somewhat French Canadian band as well...

arcade fire and céline dion are on two completely different levels of fame. I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't even know who arcade fire were.

also, thread title is misleading. the video had nothing to do with 'being a quebecer'. Honestly i'm not even sure if you're being serious. I've done too much programming and physics to deal with humans lately.

Arcade Fire are French Canadian/Québécois too they just sing mostly in English (as does Céline Dion btw). He probably didn't know them and had to think because he hopefully doesn't like Céline Dion but didn't want to ask who Arcade Fire were.

It's a shame he picked Céline cause Arcade Fire are an amazing band and they don't do prefabricated music like Céline Dion who doesn't write her songs or her melodies.

It's just a silly mini-interview that players have to do to get the fans engaged. And if he really understood Québec music history (which I don't care about him knowing), he wouldn't have picked Céline. Silly thread

Only one member of Arcade Fire is from Quebec, most members are from Texas or Ontario. But the band itself was born and centred in Montreal, so it's legitimate as far as I'm concerned. But I'm like Win Butler, an American who moved to Montreal to go to McGill, so what do I know.

Either way they are one of the best rock bands today. There's nothing else like Arcade Fire.

He's from Houston, not California. Régine Chassagne is very much from Quebec though, and some Arcade Fire songs are in French.

Wow, this thread is ridiculous. If there is a correlation between liking Celine Dion and respecting French Canadian culture, not a lot of people under 40 would respect it! One of the only French Canadian bands I listen to is Malajube and yet I don't see how that would be a lack of respect towards Quebecois culture.

Who cares?

He is Danish, he probably likes death/black metal more than pop and indie music.

Actually he was born in California and raised in Texas. Then went to boarding school in New Hampshire and moved to Montreal for university.

Fair enough, he spent most of his life in Texas though. The Suburbs is mostly about growing up in the Houston suburbs.

I was hoping that after 20 posts someone would have noticed that I was trying to be satirical in making this thread by over-analyzing everything a player says.

I would've said Celine Dion, too, but only because Arcade Fire is horrible.
