Get him off the damn point, though.
I'm going to have to disagree w/ the "get him off the damn point"

Since his assertion on the point we have been getting better looks and better puck movement on the pp. It's not to say it can't improve. It most definitely can and will. However, I think Stepan is doing a really good job on the point.

There seems to be this haze around Prospal. I can't for the life of my see where Gross could get that from.

if this means a top 2 lines of: avery-stepan-gaborik and reuniting the BAR line, then i am all for it.

Yeah thats what I was hoping. Stepan and Avery have played well together. But Torts is putting Fedotenko on the top line. I thought the Feds-Boyle-Prust line has looked good together. There is really no reason to break them up.

When we're back healthy

Prospal-Stepan-Gaborik
Dubinsky-Anisimov-Callahan
Fedotenko-Drury-Prust
Avery-Boyle-Christ/Boogard

Do not like Feds on the top line. Upset Torts gave up on Avery after 2 games.

Also, my take on Prospal is i doubt he'll be anywhere near the way he was last year due to the injury. As much as I hate to say it, because I really like Vinny, I think he's done. I would like nothing more than to be wrong, though.

didn't Prospal play on Gabby's LW though? I think Prospal really made that line work. EC was just able to feed off of it. A creative and smart player like Stepan should be able to thrive in it.

at least the BAR line is back. sadly, on paper, they look like they'll be the only effective line out there.

not big on Feds playing on the 1st

i'd wouldnt mind seeing drury play that wing when comes back...putting Feds on the 3rd and giving Frolov the boot

drury - stepan - gaborik

i might be alone on this but i like that

Messier time at #NYRangers practice. Sean Avery in group working on faceoffs.
Feds is a get-his-nose-dirty player. Not sure thats what Gaborik needs but hey, its worth a shot.

The Torts-Prust love fest seems to be continuing. Not sure why we dont try moving Frolov to RW to get him to shoot more. If table hockey is any example, he wont go behind the net as much.

Avery-Boyle-Frolov looks like a much better 3rd line to me.

IMO Prust has been one of our best and most consistent players all year. He has played his game very well and has chipped in a few goals offensively. His PK and defensive awareness are GREAT IMO.

I think a line of Avery-Boyle-Prust is a great bottom six line capable of scoring AND keeping the puck out of the net/drawing penalties.

Frolov doesn't fit there regardless of linemates, so where does he fit?

When Prospal came back from injury last year, Torts broke up Dubinsky-Christensen-Gaborik to make it Prospal-Christensen-Gaborik, and then Prospal-Dubinsky-Gaborik, and neither worked all that well. Eventually he went back to Dubinsky-Christensen-Gaborik.

To say Prospal is the only one who consistently performed with Gaborik is an over-exaggeration, especially if you're going to try and tell us it came as a center, when more times than not Prospal was on Gaborik's opposite wing with Dubinsky or Christensen in the middle.

I highly doubt Prospal will be able to handle top line minutes at any position when he first comes back, let alone center.

Nothing worked with Gaborik at the end of last year. He was almost invisible after the olympic break injury.

A serious knee injury with surgery and he hasn't skated yet, tells me it's going to be a huge surprise if Prospal comes back before the all-star break.

Drury's been able to skate this entire time, it shouldn't take nearly as long to get back into game shape

IMO Christensen had his best games with Dubinsky on the left, Gabby on the right. You can make the same argument, however.

Was just going to post this. He has been pretty consistent in putting up points since mid-November. I'm hoping he and Gabby start clicking. If this happens, and they stay together for a while, there's no saying Stepan can't put up 60+ points (he's currently on pace for 45 pts). That would be an amazing rookie season, and possible Calder. Would be nice to have a Ranger other than Leetch with a Calder over the last 40 years.

I love these lines, although Prust and Avery can be swapped. With the way Boyle and Prust are playing, it gives us a deep forward group when everyone's healthy.

I beginning to get a little perturbed about this Gabby line thing.

I'm a huge, gigantic Stepan fan, and i think its great that hes up there in his rookie season. That speaks volumes about this kids potential. You see him thinking the game, soaking it up like a sponge every night and hes only going to get better.

But heres my beef. Gaborik is the elite forward on this team. Its time for him to start making the guys on his line better. The focus shouldnt be "whos going to center Gabby" like hes a star that has to be coddled and fed. The focus should be on whos lucky enough to be up there to join that talent. For the most part, when Jagr was here, it was who was going to compliment him, not who was going to get him going. Hate to make that comparison but thats the type of on-ice leadership they need on this team. It actually could make them a pretty damn tough team to play against, especially at home.

I know the Rangers are in desperate need of a true top center, no doubt. Of course that will help the cause here. But the big players gotta be big. If they have to take a game over themselves then they have to do it. Gaborik has the talent to use his speed and force the opposition into making mistakes. Hes skilled enough to be a threat everytime hes out there. Hes got to take control and command of the game more often, instead of looking for feeds all the time. He'll have that type of game once every 3 or 4 games. Its gotta be every night or close to every night on a team that features a lack of talent. When he plays like that, and we've seen it quite a few times last year and this year, do you even care who his linemates are?

I know thats exactly what Torts is pissed about with Gaborik, and he hates having to switch lines to continually "jump start" an elite force in the game. I know some will bring up the injury card, but thats baloney. If you arent good to go, then sit. He scored a hat-trick the other night so he was fine then. I hate to get on the guy, because i know he has that cool-slick, intelligent, shark-like striking game but he also has it in him to be a maniac when he wants to be. This team is winning games with that very mentality, dirty hard-nose styled. He needs to show that attitude every night and the line will figure itself out imo.
