Both Zherdev and Frolov seemed to have a lot of potential when coming to new york. Zherdev failed, and so far Frolov has failed. So how about neither, unless Frolov turns it around.
Once again, how is putting up 23 goals, 35 assists (on a mediocre team as well) for a 24 year old player who hadn't entered his prime "failing". Not to mention leading the team in scoring throughout the season, until the very end of course.
AND then it's REALLY hard to justify not resigning him for what, 3.8 mil?, when guys like Kotalik were brought in with the money that wasnt used to resign Z. I can assure if we had Zherdev's secondary scoring throughout the season on 09-10, we wouldve made the post season last year.
I'm not the biggest fan of the guy, but I can atleast give him some credit for what he accomplished on the least dynamic Ranger's team since the lockout (no Jagr, before we got Gabby. Aging Naslund, Drury and Gomez....nuff said)
