From what I've seen in Kari , let him play ! But he should stay as a back up so he doesn't get rushed like Jamie Storr , who was known as the best goalie prospect , but then got rushed and now is a minor leaguer/back up goalie .
I agree that Pasi and Kari split duty out of camp. Within a short time however, Kari starts bearing the load with Pasi picking up occasional games to let Kari rest.
After seeing Kari play last year, there is no doubt (to me) that he's #1 on the depth chart right now. But he's still a kid and physically maturing so I doubt he is ready for the full NHL load. Plus, Hartley needs to keep him fresh for the playoffs
The team sure plays better in front of him though!
The Thrashers need some help:
1. at least another top pairing defenseman,
2. a legit 2nd line centerman,
3. relative healthy season by all the players,
4. Kari to step up,
5. probably 1-2 UFAs as well.
I think the team has a chance at the playoffs if 1-4 happen.
I would guess Bob would split their starts until one of them gets hurt or one of them gets red hot. I really like Kari, but Pasi has won the confidence of the team and coach for keeping them in games last season.
re: contending. The Thrashers can make the playoffs. If they add an experienced center and another solid defensemen. They had a shot last year but two things hurt them. 1) You needed more points than usual to win the 8th spot in the East. 2) They basically went 0 -for-January which killed their chanes. You can't skip a month in the NHL and make the postseason.
