Who should be Calgary Flames' new General Manager if Sutter was fired?
So the common consensus is this:
Darryl is not fit to be the Flames' GM, at least not through the imminent rebuilding process. So then, who will be the interim GM if Sutter is fired mid-season, and who should the Flames' ownership seek as a long-term replacement?
The options that come immediately to mind, likely or unlikely - as they are all currently within the organization:
Senior VP / Assistant GM Michael Holditch
Assistant GM Jay Feaster
Coach Brent Sutter
Who should take over at the very least, the interim duties?
and most importantly -
Who would you want, inside or outside of the Flames organization, to dictate the new culture and team of the rebuilding Calgary Flames?
Interim would be Feaster, I would think. I would look at Jim Nill as a replacement, and maybe Kelly Kisio (Calgary Hitmen) as well. Until this year he's built a solid team year in and year out. Couldn't hurt.
im gonna go there, but bring in Pierre McGuire. i know, every one makes fun of him, but he knows everything about every player. PM for GM
A few people have seriously considered Pierre McGuire now. Seriously strange to me. Peirre McGuire states the obvious about players and prospects for the fans follow or watch their respective team only, he's no scout or anything.
I think Patrick Roy would make an interesting GM. He won the Memorial cup with a QMJHL team, and has stated interest in NHL level. Pat Quinn could be stripped from the Oilers and can become an assistant GM. Scott Gordon can be our head coach and Playfair can be an assistant coach.
Feaster for interim............No to Pat Quinn, he is a dinosaur. Jim Nill possibly?? PM not sold, Roy interesting, could use his fireyness and kick some of the players as_es, maybe better behind the bench. I do believe whoever the GM is, should pick his own staff, not inherit someone elses. Personally, if one Sutter goes, they all do, but whoever better have a plan better and execute. The 90's were painfullllllllllllllllll including the first few years in this decade.

Which is exactly why he would make a good GM, did I ever say PM for head scout? no. PM has the Hockey Knowledge and knows how the game should be played better than anyone I know, and yes, he is creepy, and yes, he gets made fun of, but in all honesty, he would make a very high quality General Manager for the Flames. The only problem would be to pry him from his seat at TSN.
Nil would be good but I don't think he is going anywhere. PM as GM? I can't get on that wagon. It takes more than prospect knowledge to get the job done as GM, you have to be a leader and I think Pierre would fail at that end of the job. Interim would be Feaster, I think that is the obvious choice and the sooner Kisio gets into the Flames organization the better IMO. Whether that means as an assistant GM first or right into the top spot I don't know but he has shown some skill and success as GM for the Hitmen.

DETROIT -- The Red Wings announced today that the team has signed executive vice president and general manager Ken Holland, and vice president and assistant general manager Jim Nill to five-year contract extensions.

My vote goes to Paul Fenton, who is the Nashville Predators' Assistant GM. He would be a great addition.
I think Fenton would do well here. Let him pick his scouts and have a monetary supply to use. I'm not too sold on PM, just because he doesnt seem like the GM type. He would be a decent scout however
Won't matter who replaces the current management team. It will take a couple years to undo the mess the Sutters have created. Learn to live with that knowlwdge and you'll be further ahead.
I'm fully convinced that Oiler and Canuck fans have either hacked all your accounts, or infiltrated our forum to pretend to be Flames fans and post that they want Pierre McGuire to be part of Flames management. It's the only explanation.

He'd build us a team full of monsters!
In all seriousness, I doubt McGuire would do any worse than what's going on here now. He's a smart hockey guy who knows his junior hockey and is in touch with today's NHL. Doesn't sound like such a bad choice for a team needing to rebuild.
However, of all the names I've heard being thrown around, Jim Nill is the guy I would want. I doubt he'd be willing to come here though. Last I heard, he has kids in school in Detroit and is very determined that they finish school there. The last thing I want is a GM from a losing organization coming over. We need a guy who has a proven record of putting together winning teams.
