For evidence for this year in Patty's defence, I offer the following:
Check out this video from after the Devils game.
At 1:13, you will see on the right side of your screen Patty Marleau walk past in a black tshirt. No sign of gut whatsoever. Then you will see Dany Heatley - who looooooovvvvveeeesssss to hog camera time - in the frame wearing the same shirt.
Mr. Heatley appears to have eaten Patty's gut AND Jumbo's moobs. And it's quite possible that he's about 6 months pregnant with twins.
In case the embedded video doesn't work....here's the link.

Yeah... Patty looks fit and so does Heatley. Heatley is stretching his chest on the doorframe. Those are not man boobs. Those are pectorals. And the high bulge at his "gut" are his large abs being pushed out to stretch. So... Fully on board with people railing on Patty for being in another one of his "depressed" runs but not at all on board with people criticizing their fitness based on small glimpses of post-game locker room activity.

You can't see anything in that video. He's wearing a loose shirt, and it cuts it off so you can't see his beer belly.
Okay. You just keep telling yourself that. You can see where his gut supposedly is. Patty's shirt is fit pretty close and he looks pretty good. Heater has the same shirt on and looks huge.
Obviously I'm pretty much joking along with this thread but...
I think you deleted the Tampa game from your DVR on purpose to erase evidence.
No. The fact that I accidentally hit the delete button when I was reading this thread has absolutely nothing to do with it. I should have been paying more attention to what I was doing.
Again... no. He's stretching his abs/pecs out on the doorframe. If you're in reasonable shape, go do this and observe what it looks like. If you've got abs, you can bulge them out a whole bunch, and it's muscle.
I'd love to see any of you call Heatley or Marleau out in real life and without their pads on. You'd see how wrong you were.
All for criticizing their play or their effort if need be, and maybe they're not the fittest in the NHL, but to claim these videos prove that, or show that they have guts or are "fatasses" is ridiculous.

Marleau is starting to use his speed a bit and drive the net, but he still is a little too passive on the zone entry and likes to stop up and wait for the other players to catch up. There's no point in being the fastest player if you don't utilize that speed.
Though I can't really fault him since he's thinking defense first, and honestly with the defense we have that's not a bad thing. BUUUUT he's a huge minus player right now so maybe that's not the right mentality.

He played very well defensively tonight, and he had that one breakout where he didn't do that idiotic skid and shoot and instead used his strength to drive the net and it made me so, so happy. Please, please, let him do it more.

Yeah I agree, he looked much better tonight. Maybe that one assist was the boost he needed.
