Glad to see Kubina back. Out of any of the guys that were ex-Lightning he's the lone one I would want back. Should help out tremendously around the net!
Kuby back in the blue & black! Sweet, anybody know terms?
know, but now it makes sense as to why he dished of mez so quickly. Part of it is suppose to be used for Stamkos, the other part for a better defensemen. Good job Steve!
Hellz yes Kubie is back! Find a bottom pairing guy maybe, Corvo? or let a Norfolk kid have (earn) the spot, Lashoff/Wishart?
Corvo would want too much. (and I wouldn't want him in the first place). If Walker's salary was dumped, I could realistically see adding Corvo, but still wouldn't want him.
It's only really a question of, who will comprise the 3rd pairing? Walker let's assume, as he's making too much not to play, and...
Around the start of the season, Lashoff will be 24, Smaby and Ranger will be 26. Then there's the 22/23 year-olds Wishart, Quick and Jackson.
Their biological clocks are all ticking.
Otherwise, I'd think Yzerman may be interested in (28 year-old) Brett Lebda. Whoever it is, they won't be making too much.

Great signing! I thought Kubie was solid when he played for us in his first tour. Looking forward to seeing how our defense shapes out over the next few days.
This also answers the question of why they didn't bring back Foster. Big booming righty shot and mucho better defensively. Anybody know if he still blocks shots like he used to?

Reason: spelling

He blocked 111 shots in 76 games last season with ATL (would've been 2nd behind Ohlund and Walker who each had 116 BkS), 133 in 82 with TOR in 08/09, 166 in 72 with TOR in 07/08. So it's a degress but he's still a beast.
Love having Pavel back, I hated to see him leave. He wanted to stay in 06, but there was just no room for him. Awesome job by Stevie so far. An upgrade over Meszaros while saving a few bucks and getting a 2nd rounder. Still some work to be done, but I like what's going on here.
Great signing guys. Kubina is still a rock. Wish the Leafs had kept him but we're rebuilding and needed to get younger. Why so manyt eams dished out such big $ on all those UFA dmen without looking at Kubina first is beyond me.
