HAF - Because from what I quoted you (emphasis mine):

Possession of the Puck: The last player to touch the puck, other than the goalkeeper, shall be considered the player in possession. The player deemed in possession of the puck may be checked legally, provided the check is rendered immediately following his loss of possession.

The definitions relevant to that rule are in the top section.

Come ON PP.
Yeah. The contested puck is what makes this a strange rule. Fair enough though.

Watching Niskanen/Skrastins try to break out from a standstill is so excruciating.

So Neal has been demoted to the 4th line for scoring?

I think Crawford is rotating top-line wingers through the fourth line to try and get scoring players out against better matchups, but I could be wrong. I seem to remember Eriksson doing some of that the last few games as well.

Is it sacrilege to say this PP was better when Modano was on the point?

Will NISKANEN ever hit the net again? It's becoming a legitimate question.

Absolutely. Modano was terrible on the point.

This PP was better with Modano on the half wall, however.

Let's see a Benn-Wandell-Neal line just for the hell of it. The people who came to play tonight.

I can live with that.

Eriksson is just invisible. I know he scored recently, but he's really slow to loose pucks and just not his normal self. It makes me wonder if he's got a nagging injury or something.

There's no doubt that Loui is struggling at the moment.

Wandell and Neal almost combine again for a good chance. Wandell lulled the defense to sleep that time.

Why did Daley give Stempniak so much room?

Different positional roles. On the PP, at least, Morrow and Ott switch out as crease monkey, Eriksson and Neal rotate as the slot sniper and Ribeiro and Benn rotate as the half-wall center. If Neal is going to switch with someone to move to the first unit PP, it's going to be Eriksson.

I love Loui to death but at this point I'd be fine with that. Neal has never gotten the PP time he's deserved. It's obviously not working, something needs to change.

Read that too. I just can't let go that a swing and a miss doesn't somehow negate the previous possession.

Q: "obsess much?"
A: "Why yes, thank you."

I am a bit of a lunatic. Can't let it go. It is not I want to be right somehow. I just want the rules to more closely resemble the game that is actually played. Going to do some more digging, but thank you for the helpful posts.

Oh, I could absolutely live with it too (though honestly, I think a lot of the problem is Richards at the moment - I know he's a good passer nothing is being created up high on the PP right now and the puck movement is far too slow). But the question was why is Neal not playing over Morrow on the first unit PP, and the answer is they play different roles on the PP itself, at least ideally.

Gap problems are his biggest recurring demon.
