Has a returning player ever been cut?

This is hockey canada's way of scouting...lol! No NHl team works this way, yet these buffoons continue to do this year after year. The other thing they are famous for is inviting 17 yr olds, only to tell them they aren't good enough...and then watch as they get selected in the first round and make their NHL team! See sequin last year. Skinner didn't even get an invite last year as their "scouting" staff deemed his skating as weak. How's his skating so far this year...in the NHL?!
Murray was a joke and pentergast has picked right up where he left off.
Good luck this year with this collection.

Well, they invite 17 year olds for the experience and to get a good look at them. If you look at the rosters of all the teams in the WJC, they are all filled with 18 and 19 year olds. There are very few 17 year olds that even make the weak teams. You can complain that Seguin didn't make the team last year as a 17 year old, but why would he have? Just because he made the NHL this year doesn't mean that at the time of the WJC last year he was ready. Look at the list of guys who were invited to this years camp and there are only 3 '93's.

Team Canada's scouting is anything but a joke. Look at their track record and medal wins and that will tell you something. If you think that Canada is stupid for cutting 17 year olds then you are the one that is not very smart. Why would Canada take a group of inexperienced, physically immature kids, when they could take 19 year olds who have had more experience and are in their final years of junior? It doesn't make sense, honestly. Just because these guys are top picks in their years doesn't mean that they are better than guys who were drafted later a year or two before.

He was cut three years in a row before finally making it in his last eligible year...so he was never a returning player.

I was gonna say. I'm pretty sure he was in the same boat as Nathan Horton in that their teams would only release them from the AHL if they didn't have to attend the Selection Camp and HC said no.

But Irving is the only player I can think of who was cut after being a returnee without being injured.
