That call right there is BS. That's five and a game, under international rules.

Yeah, I always thought they were much harsher on that kind of thing at the WJCs.

Wow, Kuznetsov should have picked up another assist but his line mate misses a wide open net

Is the US game or the Russia game at the arena where the Canadians played?

Great. So the place that was packed with Canadians is still packed with Canadians for the later US game at the same place, to cheer on the Swiss. Someone at USA Hockey wasn't thinking when they planned that one.

Per James Duthie, very slim chance the US and Canada play in the final now.

tsnjamesduthie | ...Something about these New Year's Eve games. Always wild.

So...if US beats SUI, Can SUI in quarters, and if they win, they would play US in semis. If SUI upsets US, Canada would play US in quarters.

...But, in the small chance SUI beats US in OT or shootout, then CAN would play SUI in quarters AND Finland in semis.

So there is still a tiny chance CAN and US could play in gold medal game, but only if SUI beats US in OT, and CAN and US win out from there.

...And now I have a migraine.

They probably kicked everyone out between games but, face it, it's going to be filled with Canadians no matter what. It's the WJC's and its in Buffalo.

I think what I've been reading is that most people picked up the full-day packs, but you're right of course. WJCs = can not defend from the Canadian fans.

Great play by Wey. I think his partner was stunned the puck ended up on his stick.

And Benjamin Conz responds at the other end.

He was great last year too, I seem to remember.

Good game. US ekes out a win, gets the bye into the semi-final. That's two good games today.

He was on for the lone SUI goal, looked like he fell behind the play (but I didn't see what led up to it) and surrendered a 2-on-1. Otherwise thought he looked good. Didn't stand out nearly as much as the last game, though.

Never got around to saying thanks for this - I've never had the chance to see him first hand. This makes me happy, so long as he doesn't lose the position/stick work skill.

Hitting is nice, but it should be a bonus to overall fundamentals.

Sounds like he could turn into a good one.

Wey's first few steps and initial reading of the play need to improve but there's a pretty decent baseline of ability there, especially in light of the farm getting pretty thin at that position. I'd still expect him to play another season or two at BC. The big game situations should only benefit him. Hopefully he's healthy and available for them this season.

Today's quarterfinal action: Canada faces off against the pesky Swiss at 3:30 and Russia faces Finland at 7:30. Germany (and perhaps Grubauer) play the Czechs on the relegation side at 7:30.

Swiss take a 1-0 lead over Canada about a minute into the game. Careless goaltending with a puck in play just a few feet away.

Surprised Canada isn't being more physical. The Swiss have the clear edge in that regard so far. An easy way to get the crowd into it and spark some momentum.

Tied.

Eakin bumped up with Schenn and Hamilton. Impressed by the Swiss heart. Visentin not very composed at all.
