I don't know if you're being intentionally obtuse or not but pick out any game within the last two seasons and you will see the Sens carry out this play atleast once during the game, and it's not always initiated by Spezza.

Stupid play by Spezza.

60% on him, 20% on Kuba, 20% on Elliott.

100% Elliott. Vokoun would have stopped that.

The chance was only created because of Spezza's poor decision, but Elliott played it brutally. He was way too deep in his net and didn't cut down the angle in spite of the fact that he had good back pressure coming if Little decided to try a deke.

Do you think Clouston draws this one up with the instructions "keep your head down and don't look where you're passing"?

The team blows chunks if 1 giveaway by Spezza (or anyone for that matter ) is enough to cost us a game.

The defence can't do anything to help and the goalie doesn't stop it.

Not so long ago Gonchar fell down and costs us a goal as well.

This team has no margin for error, one bad mistake is usually enough to sink us.

If we scored more goals, had better defence and goaltending we could afford such occasional mistakes.

I'm not making excuses for Spezza's bad play but other teams' have giveaways as well and it rarely costs them a win because they have solid defence and goaltending to bail them out.

I thought the whole point of OT is that one mistake can cost you the game?

Not necessarily, lots of teams make mistakes and recover, whether it's OT or regulation.

It happens too often here because we don't have good defence or goaltending.

As a consequence the team plays scared with little confidence knowing one bad mistake means game over.

This and this again. We can go on and on and on discussing how much it was Spezza's fault ond how much Kuba's and Elliott's. But ultimately it comes down to this

Garry Galley, on the radio last hour, pretty much echoed what I've been saying in this thread. Spezza is getting the blame because he had the puck so he was responsible for it, but he expected Kuba to be joining the rush, instead Kuba stayed back then decided to join the rush really late when Little had already taken the puck when Kuba should've stayed back and defended. This is pretty much a paraphrase of what Garry Galley said.

And yet Spezza still tried to make the risky play, stubborn or stupid, you be the judge. Other great players do turn the puck over & a number of them more often than Spezza but how often does it cost them games. I would think that Spezza climbs a lot higher on the list when you look at when he does it, it just seems like it is at critical times in the game, at game changing times.

He assumed, and didnt care to double check with his eyes. It's on him.

Although I've already stated before that he deserves some of the blame for assuming that Kuba would be there, let's just agree to disagree on the notion that the goal was all on Spezza.

As Steve Ludzik would say..........................there are times on the ice when you should charge him $5 for public skating.

I see you watched OTR yesterday and took a quote related to the effort of Alex Kovalev. Are you implying that this is applicable to Spezza who is on pace to have 14 more TkA's than GvA's this season?

Absolutely! He's a one dimensional hockey player who is vastly overpaid for what he brings to the team. Great offensively (at times) but as you can tell I'm not a big fan.
The SENS need Spezza to step up and lead this team. Is he up to it? Time will tell.
I suspect he will be on the golf course early this year.
