Should the Flames pick up Rolston?

The Flames are one of the first teams to get a shot at picking up waivers, Rolston was placed there today by New Jersey, Calgary is a team that needs offensive skill and while Rolston isn't an all-star he has a great shot and he might be useful on the powerplay.

With a 2.5M cap hit I don't know if Darryl can pull it off, admittedly despite following the Flames (I love your hockey team guys <3) I don't know much about the cap situation here.

What do you guys think? Rollie a good addition to a team that needs some forwards or do you want to stay the hell away from him?

Things to consider:

-Rolston could probably play in the top 6 here.

-Sutter/Rolston have some tension left over from NJ, that may influence whatever decision Calgary makes.

-He can play on the PP and blast pucks from the point.

he's on waivers and not re-entry waivers... so his cap hit would be full sized... I would only take him in a trade... for Jokinen and Kotalik

So his cap hit will only be 50/50 between Calgary/New Jersey (hypothetically) if he's put on re-entry waivers?

He needs to clear waivers first before being put on re-entry waivers, so it's possible to get him at 2.5 million if he clears, but we only have 0.5 million in cap space, and that's only LTIR cap space. If Calgary can make a trade, I'd take him, but there's no guarantee that Rolston will sign here anyways.

I'm not sure if I want him in those circumstances; he's under contract for next year too.

Maybe in a trade for Kotalik and the Devil's 2nd round pick. I'll leave Jokinen out of the trade because he has a NMC and is ever so valuable to the team...

No No and more No! These ideas and moves are what has gotten the Flames into the predicament they are in now... why make it even worse?

No, not a chance. Unless they take Joker back, then I would welcome him.

so are Kotalik and Jokinen... we shed a contract and almost a million in cap space... not saying the Devils will do that though because they wouldn't

We should just ask if the Devils want Jokinen for Rolston straight up. The team seems to play so much better when Joker isn't around.

Yeah but Kotalik(and maybe Jokinen) could possibly bugger off to Europe and the Flames lose the cap hit. Rolston's cap hit can't come off the roster that easily since he signed after the age of 35.

I highly doubt either will go to Europe

Q.Would Rolston's NTC clause protect him from being claimed on reentry waivers? (Lunatik?)
