Brett Connolly would have also made a good captain as he wore an "A" at last years world junior tournament but then again Canada could have a few different canidates to lead the pack.

meh, this year's squad doesn't quite have the superstar and big name potential of the other tournaments. But neither do the other teams by the looks of it. I want to see how the big D we have will handle the speedy american forwards. Sweden is a wildcard in my opinion.

yeah, I have no clue why the thread is here as well, its not like any of our prospects are captain or assistants.

Who is captain of the Swedish team? Lander or Landeskog?

Same here. I couldn't give you an honest analysis of his overall play this year since I haven't watched him. But I most certainly love the positive feedback that Swedish viewers are giving about him. He seems to carry a high level of leadership and strong two play. Eklund had a lot of very inspiring comments to make about him too. Excited to watch him at the WJC's as well.

Yeah, I'd love for the Swedes to prove me wrong, sounds like a Samuel Pahlson type in my opinion but with leadership skills, which is always nice, if all things pan out we could see a Eberle-Lander PK unit. Although Lander has done nothing really to catch my eye but like I said Im also excited to watch how he handles his team and performs.

Threads merged. First official mod action.

Did I do it right? Or did I blow up the forum?

Anyways, as for Ellis as captain. I'm of two minds.

On one hand he's been here twice before and clearly has the most experience. But on the other he was pretty bad at last years championships and I've never been overly impressed by his on ice performance.

Then again, he might be an amazing guy off the ice who really pulls the team together.

I think Ellis will be out for revenge, imagine losing the gold on home ice? I dont think he will be the mvp but who know's, I think Connolly should be captain but Ellis is fine too.

You must be confusing him with someone else. Connolly did not played in the WJHC last year, and even if he did he is a poor choice for captain since he is known to not bring it every night.

I agree fully. He appears to be a very lethargic, uninspired character. Certainly not the type of person I view as a captain.

No, I think the pre-tourney games will determine that.

Maybe he's talking about the Hlinka tourny?

And despite perhaps looking uncomfortable in front of cameras, Connolly is a very good locker room guy from all accounts.

First exhibition game tonight!

Lines look like (from WJC board):

8 Jaden Schwartz-10 Brayden Schenn (A)-20 Louis Leblanc
17 Marcus Foligno-7 Sean Couturier-9 Zack Kassian
21 Cody Eakin-19 Ryan Johansen-28 Brett Connolly
12 Quinton Howden-11 Casey Cizikas-25 Carter Ashton-16 Curtis Hamilton

4 Dylan Olsen-6 Ryan Ellis (C)
2 Jared Cowen (A)-24 Calvin de Haan (A)
3 Simon Després-5 Erik Gudbranson-22 Tyson Barrie

30 Mark Visentin (starting)
31 Olivier Roy

Visentin tonight against the Swiss and Roy tomorrow against the Swedes. Hmm, is that a good sign?

I'm headed from work to the GM Center right now, I'll try and have a detailed report on how Hamilton looks from the stands, as well as how Roy handles opening the bench door. So Pumped!

No it's not. It looks like it's Visentin's job to lose. Disappointed that Hamilton appears to be the extra forward as well. Hopefully that changes since Oiler fans have been lucky to watch Oiler prospects play a main role with Canada the last few years.
