Player of the Game & The Good, The Bad, The Redden: Game #68 vs. Philadelphia Flyers

Player of the Game & The Good, The Bad, The Redden

The RulesWhat is the poll for?

You are voting for the player of the game - the one who put forth the most effort, who put the team on his shoulders, who contributed the most.

Do not vote for the player who had the best statistical game just because he had the best statistical game.

This does not mean you should not vote for the player of who had the best statistical game, but do not vote for him just because of that fact.

Who can I vote for?

You may vote for any player who dressed for the game and played at least one shift. If the player you want to vote for is not included in the poll, select "Other" and indicate in your post who you wish to vote for. In the case that I egregiously miss the player who everyone wants to vote for in the poll, I will count the votes in the thread.

What is this "The Good, The Bad, The Redden" nonsense?

It is my twist on the title of the famous spaghetti western movie, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.

Since multiple players may have outstanding games and you can only vote for one player in the poll, this affords you the opportunity to recognize multiple players, or a facet of the team, for their commendable play ("The Good"). This also affords you the opportunity to rip players, or a facet of the team, for their particularly substandard play ("The Bad"). Finally, just as "The Player of the Game" affords you the opportunity to recognize the best, this affords you the opportunity to commend the crème de la crème of the worst, who delivered an atrocious performance, or whose singular (or multiple) bad plays directly led to the the detriment of the team ("The Redden").

Alexander Frolov Memorial Trophy

The Alexander Frolov Memorial Trophy is awarded to the player who most exemplifies the qualities that Alex brought to the ice game in and game out. Most notable was his talent for wraparounds. Thusly, this award is given to the player who has the most wraparound attempts throughout the game.

The award tonight goes to Brandon Prust, with 1 wraparound attempt against Philadelphia.

I voted Cally, dunno why. He had some nice shifts and deserves some recognition from us.

Strangely, in a game with 4 goals scored by Ryan Callahan and not a single goal given up by Henrik Lundqvist, I feel that Brandon Dubinsky was the best player. Go figure.

I'm not sure who wears number 24, but he had a rather pleasant game.
POTG - #24
The Good - 9th Shutout for Hank, 2 goals by Zucc, that #24 fellow scoring a few goals
The Bad - The refs
The Redden - Versteeg

Yeah Dubinsky had a monster game. Physical and controlling the puck and making things happen. Gotta keep up that play down the stretch

And as bad as Philly played, the Rangers did something they've struggled to do...score on the chances they create. They haven't been getting out played lately but just haven't been scoring, and they did that today and didn't let Philly get back intot he game

really nice game

I was tempted to vote for Dubinsky. He had a game that was almost as beastly as Cally's, but without the statistics to back it up.

Great game, but whenever the Rangers have a scoring outburst like this, I can't help but wish that some of these goals could have come in our many 1-goal losses this season.

Still, an excellent win against an opponent who was giving us fits this season. Flyers didn't really show up today, but it's quite obvious that goaltending is a big concern for them. The same problem that cost them the cup last season will probably haunt them again this year.

POTG - Callahan. In this case, because he put 4 goals into the twine. The value of that cannot be overstated.

The Good - Hank brought his game, so did pretty well everyone. Nice to not see that endless boardwork and cycling without it turning into something. They did stuff on the rush too (Flyers did look like crap a lot, though).

The Bad - Junior D calibre officiating at times

The Redden - the fact this Flyers beating does not occur more often

i'm not a big fight guy - but props to dubi for sinking Richards. Philly could've generated momentum from that and Dubi stepped up and put down the law.

nice to see the improvement in gilly's game.

good line changes and bench management from Torts too.

POTG: Ryan Callahan, but Henrik had another good game, and Dubinsky seemed to just control the puck every shift.

The Good: Another blowout victory.

The Bad: Nothing

The Redden: This is about the fourth or fifth game this year where they've just run someone out of the rink. Why can't they do this consistently? Yeah, I know Philly played awful hockey, but still....

I think he was a healthy scratch with Gabster in it.

If you don't pick Callahan, you aren't a Ranger fan. Simple.

-It isn't crazy. Dubinsky was an absolute animal in this game. He was imposing his will on the Flyers down low every time he had the puck. Perhaps he is fully healed from the stress fracture. The past two games reminded me of the Dubinsky we saw before he got hurt.

-Great to see Cally get rewarded for his consistent hard work. I love the kid.

-The kick save Henrik made in the first period was a huge moment in this game. Stepan had just hit the post which would have made it 3-0. Flyers come down and if they score there it is 2-1 and the entire game changes. Huge save!

-Nice job by Boyle going after Shelley even though he knew he was over matched.

-I loved seeing Dubi give Richards his annual beating. They really hate each other.

-Nice to see Zuccarello get two goals.

-Amazing hands by Arty on that breakaway goal.
