John Ramage was named captain of the 2011 U.S. National Junior Team, and will be joined by alternate captains Ryan Bourque and Jeremy Morin.

Ive been told by several people that Derek Stepan was one of the best captains you could ever ask for. Hes a big reason Team USA had so much success last year. He led in the dressing room and he led on the ice, putting up a ton of points as well. Stepan and Ramage were teammates not only on Team USA, but also at Wisconsin. Im sure Ramage picked up a few tips from his fellow Badger. Im excited to see how he seizes this role.

I really like the alternates too. Ryan Bourque wore an A on the U.S. National Under-18 Team while he was at the NTDP. A big reason for that was the way he plays. His energy and spark are contagious. He doesnt back down from anybody and hes going 100 mph all the time. Hes not going to take a shift off, so nobody else better while this guys on the team. Another great example for his teammates and a guy Keith Allain can count on

Morin is a very surprising choice....very very surprising choice. kid is very gifted offensively...but he disappears for stretches where you just cant find him on the ice (a-la Nigel Dawes)

He was one of only two with NHL experience, and Palmieri has had issues in the past, so makes sense to me.

People in the US WJC sticky were saying Morin had a good shot at being captain and I questioned them. Apparently he has rounded out his game big time and his attitude has also improved. I thought the same as you originally.

Definitely surprised by Ramage as captain, but it seems like a solid choice.

wheres johnny boy? he railed against this kid. i can remember he was pretty brutal towards jet's overall game.

i lobbied hard for us to take jeremy morin 2 yrs ago

kid is a pure shooter and a much more complete player than many here gave credit. much of his "label" was unearned and imo, misguided.

couldnt be happier for the kid. another syracuse stars product.

When the Hawks got Morin in the Byfuglien trade, I told my friend (die hard Blackhawks fan) that he would love Morin.

Morin was the best piece in that trade, IMO.

I can't wait to watch Kreider in this tournament. He should be pretty heavily relied on.

I mean Kreider and Werek are 2 very solid players to take in the first 2 rounds of that draft.

Still not impressed with him at all. Let me know when he does something that should impress me. It certainly hasn't happened yet.

Much happier with them than Jeremy "I don't know how to pass the puck or play without it" Morin.

back then, if i remember correctly, your um...."position" was that morin was a bum. if i remember correctly, your phrase was... "one dimensional".

pretty sure you might be in the minority on that one johnboy.

you seem to get caught up in the "flavor of the month" opinion of certain players...

judging talent is very subjective, as im sure you know. one or even a few opinions of a player isnt gospel.

and it was never about if morin was better than any other player....it was purley about jeremy morins talent, his overall game and his eventual upside as a pro. nothing more.

Im excited about the games that start tonight. Russia vs. Canada will be a war on ice and Im also happy to see Kreider & Bourque in tonights game vs. the Finns. The only thing that sucks hard is that Germany vs. Swiss (Rivalry since i can think) is not televised

He is one dimensional. What does he do other than shoot the puck? He's not a playmaker and he doesn't play defense. He's the definition of one dimensional. If he's not scoring, he's absolutely useless. He hasn't changed since he was a kid and I doubt he evolves at the pro level.

I'd take Kreider & Werek over Morin 10 times out of 10.

I like Morin as a prospect and wanted him in the second round but he is absolutely one-dimensional. When you are as talented in that one dimension as he is you can still become a decent pro however.

According to the NHL website, the USA vs Finland game should be on NHLN.

EDIT- Very great to see Bourque getting named assistant captain.

@TSNBobMckenzie: Nino Niedereitter had 1G and 1A in SUI's 4-3 win over GER in first game of WJC. SUI hung on for the win after leading 4-0.

Tarasenko looks like the best player on the ice in this game so far (yes, I realize the game is only a few minutes old). He took a huge, and ill-advised, hit to set up the goal, and made a nice play down the right wing to set up another really good scoring chance. I like his game a lot.

Brayden Schenn is such an average offensive prospect. I have never seen him have more then a "meh" game. One of those prospects that gets way too much credit for playing a two-way game and throwing hits.

Jaden Schwartz and Quinton Howden look very good though.

Hows Schenn been in the faceoff circle?

Schwartz and Howden, two guys that were picked after Mcilrath.

Not that it matters now, but I blame Brayden Schenn for Canada's silver last year
