I'm originally from Regina, been a Flames fan since I was 4. Currently live in Thunder Bay, and proposed to my fiancee there. During wedding planning she asked me if there was anything I wanted for the ceremony. Jokingly I said I wanted to invite Jarome Iginla.
She took me seriously, got us tickets to watch the Flames play in Minneapolis on Monday the 20th. She had a wedding invitation made up for Jarome, and made a sign for the game that said "Mr. Iginla, we came all the way from Canada to invite you to our wedding. Go Flames Go!"
We staked out the arena during afternoon warmups in hopes of meeting Jarome then. We had no idea where to go, and wandered around aimlessly for a bit. There was a gentlemen in a suit that was showing some folks around, and came and asked us if there was anything we needed help with after we finished - so I asked him if he knew where the team would be headed after the practice. He offered to show us.
During the walk I asked what he did for the Wild. He responded "I'm the GM. Chuck. Nice to meet you."
So Chuck Fletcher showed us where to wait.
The team came out about a half hour later. I got to briefly say hello to Conroy, Regehr, Stajan, Tanguay, Giordano, Bouwmeester, Brent Sutter and a few others. Got to meet Jarome, gave him the invitation, and got a picture with him with our sign (I'll post it later if you guys want, gotta get it off the camera).
We tried to get the sign on TV, but were sitting on the wrong side of the stadium. I'm pretty sure we got it on foxsports though, since we went and stood behind the announcers during pregame and held it up.
Great story, man. Congrats on snagging that woman!
I've spoken with Chuck a couple of times around town (I work downtown) and he's always very friendly. Side note for future visits--i've seen a bunch of players over the last couple years at the Starbucks closest to the arena a few hours before game time.
Hi guys, not trolling. Honest. This is one of the best stories i've heard. Its great to hear that you found a woman that will take on a passion of her future husband. Good luck in the future.
P.s Keep up the hope for a top 5 pick guys.
