2 defensemen signed for next year

With only Spacek and Subban still signed for next year what do you think our defense will llook like? Who would you like to pick up?

This is how I'd like our team to look

Subban-Seabrook
Erhoff-Spacek
Gill-Gorges

What do you guys think? What players would you like to see come to the habs. BTW I thought perhaps a offersheet to seabrook would be a good idea with the hawks being in cap hell. Perhaps a trade maybe. Erhoff is UFA and I hope we could get him too.

Hopefully Spacek will have an Illumination next summer and retire already...

But the cap hit will still count won't it?

Offer sheet do not want... EVER.

Not only is it equated to a swift kick in the nuts, but it is gross overpayment IMO. Now I know it wouldn't be like the leafs and Kessel, since they gave very high picks, I still wouldn't sacrifice that many picks to grab Seabrook.

You're right with salo and beiksa leaving they will most likely want to resign him. I'm disappoint . I would really like to see erhoff on our team. I also think seabrook would compliment subban really well. Another guy I'd like to see in a habs jersey. I think right now our offense is pretty solid. Hoping that patches does well on the 2nd line I think we have a solid top 2 and even the 3rd line with eller darche and pouliot. Darche can be replaced by someone else if needed.

Thats why I think our main goal would be to patch our defense with younger more mobile defensemen.I think erhoff is 28 and seabrook is 24 or 26. Young vets.

Seabrook aint going anywhere, he is a RFA and the Hawks are going to have some cap space this summer. I think Markov gets resigned and hopeful we can ship Spacek somewhere somehow, I wouldn't mind signing Scott Hannan for cheap and maybe James Wisniewski

Markov-Wisniewski
Hannan-Subban
Gill0-Gorges
Weber

in my ideal world, it would look something like this:

Markov/Kaberle (5.5M) - Gorges (3M)
Regehr (4M) - Subban (875K)
Hamrlik (2.5M) - Weber (1M)

try like heck to get Emelin over, and have him/Weber duke it out for the 6/7 dman spot. If not, re-sign Picard as the depth dman.

trade Spacek in the offseason for whatever we can get
trade for Regehr this year, or in the offseason

Try to sign Markov to a 3-4 year deal @5.5M, if he doesn't accept by July 1st, go hard after Kaberle for the same amount but more years (up to 5).

Re-sign Gorges for as many years as he'll take @3-3.5M
Re-sign Hamrlik for 2 years @ 2.5M, or 1 year @ 3.5M, if he wants more, sign Gill instead for 1-2yrs @ 1.8M cap hit.

I would only re-sign Gill. I would push to get Emelin over and then look to free agency or the trade market.

Can a team have too many puck moving defenseman ?

Markov, Subban, Weber, Kaberle

Would it be too much for a top 6 ?

Markov-Wisniewski

Gill0-Gorges
Weber
Hannan would be a downgrade on Hamrlik, much weaker offensively and on the PP.

If you sign a guy like Hannan you let Gill walk.

I would like to see PG sign Markov for 1 year at sub 5 mil, and keep Weber and Picard as #7-8 so we have a plan B if things don't go well.

Spacek Subban
Webber Gill
Gorges Picard

Ouch....

Let's hope Markov makes a full recovery and decided to sign in Montreal for their patience...

I would try to re-sign Markov and Hamrlik for no more than $2.5 million/yr each, re-sign Gorges and then go after defencemen like Shea Weber and Brent Seabrook.

Markov - Subban
Gorges - Seabrook/Weber
Hamrlik - Spacek

There's already been talk of Gill being in talks about an extension. Gorges will probably be back. Spacek, Subban and Weber should all be regulars. That's five of our top six without Markov or Hamr being back, and for all we know they both might be. I don't see there being a snowflake's chance in hell we'll see four new faces in the top six to start next year, personally.

I hope Yemelin finally makes the jump. in few years Tinordi and Yemelin could hopefully be our scary big D no one likes to play against.

This looks very nice with only signing one new piece. Whether it's Kaberle or someone else if the Habs are re-signing Markov I just hope there are other bodies who can pick up the workload when he goes down and Kaberle would be a nice backup offensively.

The other thing I like is no Hal Gill. I don't think there has been extension talks with Gill. I think that was some mediaite picking up on Hal Gill saying he'd like to stay in Montreal. If there are extension talks already then things are worse than I thought. Don't see how he'd be a priority at this point.

Hal Gill has become the new MAB to me except he's a PK specialist instead of a PP specialist. But his even strength play to me is very suspect. People rave and rave about his shot blocking ability and two other d-men on the team have more.
