20 Dec 2010 - More Like Kipru-SIEVE! - 7PM, FSN

@
(14-16-3, 31pts) - (14-13-4, 32pts)

7pm, Xcel Energy Center

The Wild shocked everyone on Saturday night's Hockey Night in Canada and won a game. In regulation, no less! They pulled one point ahead of the Flames in the conference standings, for a pathetic 13th place. Tonight, Calgary will inevitably take that away from the Wild, as they consider their trend of inexplicable home losses.

The Law of Averages dictates that Iginla will get one or more hat tricks, Backstrom will score on himself twice, and Kiprusoff will stop all seven shots he faces. Saturday's effort was described as the Wild's most complete-game effort all year, which is pretty sad considering they were outshot 29-16. Again, going by averages, the Wild will probably somehow manage to incorporate two second periods into this game. Also, I'm going to the game, which is basically a guaranteed loss. I'm 1-3-0 this year, and was at both the Rangers and Flyers massacres!

Todd "I Have Gas" Richards "switched up the lines" for Saturday's game, which actually just means switching Miettinen and Kobasew. Sadly, Mittens scored on the PP on a feed from Koivu, so he's probably earned his way back on to the first line for another month or two. We'll see when lines are posted later today.

UPDATE: Nope, Kobasew's staying with Mikko and Bruno:

Brunette-Koivu-Kobasew
Bouchard-Brodziak-Havlat
O'Sullivan-Cullen-Miettinen
Clutterbuck-Madden-Nystrom

Schulz is injured and Barker may still be out for personal reasons, which gives Scandella a callup, and god forbid, we might actually see Spurgeon or Stoner on the second D-pairing. Get your drinks ready now; it could be a long one.

UPDATE: Scandella gets the second line:

Zanon-Zidlicky
Scandella-Burns
Spurgeon-Stoner

Backs in net.

The Wild are Doomed... I will be there tonight... I was last at the Rag$ game, so I expect the 2nd period to easily include an Iginla natural hattrick. I also expect Schultz will get one of his patented goals scored against off of his skate.

I expect to hear a lot of...

and that shots blocked out front
and that shots deflected wide
and that shot didn't get through traffic
and that shots off the crossbar (all in a cracking voice)
mittens/nystrom shoots and that shot sails wide of the net

I don't have anything negative to say, yet...

I'll be at the game tonight as I've missed the last few. Might just fall asleep during it, though, as I can feel it's just one of those days after waking up this morning. Hopefully it's an entertaining game, in either team's favor.

Predictions:

- There will be calls for relocation as the Wild have a record-low attendance tonight
- Miettinen will be TOP LINE RIGHT WINGER once again
- Another crap low-scoring game out of the Wild as they claim we "trap" but really we just can't score
- Havlat's going to make me jump out of my seat and curse at least twice (in a good way)
- One of Scandella or Spurgeon scores and makes Barker look even worse

If the Wild score lots of goals and win back to back games but nobody's there to see it happen, does it count in the standings?

Hahaha last game described as the most complete game yet and that was being outshot 29-16. What a classic line.

Excellent! I'm sure his -4 and whopping 1 assist in the last 16 games really was pleasing to the coaching staff. Although I'm a little thrown off that Richards didn't give him six months to turn it around.

So...

Burns - Scandella
Zanon - Zidlicky
Stoner - Spurgeon?

Jokes get less funny every time you explain them. Nobody tell him. Let him discover the magic that the Wildicorn possesses on his own!

barker was attending to a personal matter...it probably has something to do with that.

According to Russo, it's a healthy scratch due to his play, not because of his personal matter.

Hope Kobasew keeps having success with Koivu. He seems to score a goal everytime he plays with Koivu. Kobasew has looked pretty bad since coming to the Wild, but I still think he's a better hockey player than Parrish, Radio, or even Miettinen, all of who have put up decent numbers with Koivu.

Phoenix did make the playoffs last season, so I'm going with yes.

I am irrationally hoping Fletcher is moving Barker right now for something, anything.

If you don't get drunk in law school, how could you ever prepare to be a lawyer?

Between the snow and the Vikes, can't imagine this one generates a lot of excitement. I predict a 2-1 loss in the SO, creating a logjam at the 13th spot.

I'm stuck until 6:30 at U of Minn waiting to take my last final, I'm not looking forward to the drive home after, but I'm debating whether I'll listen to the Vikes on the way home or the Wild, and then when I get home, which game do I watch? Decisions, decisions...

I also got screwed by Center Ice, only got 2 HD games during both free previews I had...

I know it sucks more for you since you paid. At least you have the chance to watch the game on TV anyways.
