[QUOTE=Otto91;29661432]Lawson at 27 had just an ok 1st nhl game. The shootout shows why he is not an nhl goalie./QUOTE]
Strang's whole Newsday game wrapup is about the goalkeeping situation and she seems somewhere between confused and completely mystified. Capuano didn't clear much up when he said: "We haven't won a lot of games here, so obviously something had to change..With Nathan I have all the confidence for him to step in". Something does have to change for sure, but surely goalkeeping, DP's adventures and all, is one of the few relatively stable areas on this team.
If there is a problem - Roli could be dealt or DP's knee is worse than they're letting on - why Lawson and why against the Yotes where a good game in net would likely get a win to give this fragile team some much-needed confidence. All I can come up with is both - Roli will go and there's a realization that DP may never get to where he needs to be to be a number one. In that case, let's see what we've really got in the system. It's just such a bizarre move.
On an another bright note, the Isles are closing in on the Yotes in the race for the lowest average announced attendance. At 10282, Phoenix is ahead by 48 fans per game - damn Nordiques fans cost us first place! No team can exaggerate their numbers more than we do, though, so we must be ahead in the actual warm bums in seats race. Or is that behind? Dr. Evil's plan is coming together perfectly!

I guess Roloson isn't an NHL goalie either, cause he blows in shootouts.
See what I did there?
Lawson's first NHL game and he gave them a chance to win. Not much more you can ask for.
Watching the game live, it was really the great job by the Islander defense (I'm being completely serious) that got them the point. Every time Lawson had to make a save on his own, he didn't do it.

Minus the fact Hillen gave Phoenix the 2nd goal...
The only goal you can blame Lawson on is the 3rd. The 1st was a deflection out high with Hanzal directly in front of him.
I honestly thought the d-men looked just like they usually do, hovering below mediocre. The forwards are the ones who should be complimented on their shot blocking and getting back quickly. An honorable mention goes to the refs for calling a horrible game as well.

The 3rd goal he allowed was his fault, IMHO. He did not do a good job powering over the the post, and then gave up by tumbling to try to make the save. If he had done a better job powering over, he would've flat out stopped the puck. Does anybody else think he had enough time to not tumble and instead still improve his position? Tumbling there seemed lazy.
An NHL goalie (Roloson) makes that save, IMHO.
Overall, he played well, though.
Oh I definatley agree on that 3rd goal. I can't stand Butterfly slides, speaking as a goalie/goalie instructor, I am not a fan of taking the butterfly save selection and turning it into a complete playing style. On top of that, rebound control is horrendous because, the objective in the butterfly is to stop the first shot and let the D take the rebound. With his butterfly, he put himself way out of position on the initial play and his push back was weak as he rolled into a 2 pad stack.
Sorry for getting off topic about the specific save selection versus style of goaltending, it just drives me nuts when I see it.
Its unreal. Its like Wang and Snow just sit around thinking of ways to make the Islanders look stupid.
Conversation before the game...
Wang: Garff, who's been our best player this season?
Snow: That would be Roli sir
Wang: Who is that and position does he play?
Snow: He's a goalie sir
Wang: A gowie huh? Lets bring up a gowie from the minors and play him. WRick is hurt again and i dont want us getting any momentum after a win vs the Ducks.
Snow: Yes sir, master sir

Goal #3, was clearly on forwards that could not get back, this is where PA Parenteau either looks great or very poor. Parenteau goes to the puck in the offensive zone on occasion (rare that it is), he is able to take a puck away from an opponent behind the opponent's goal in this case, he succeeded, but a quick turnover on a blind pass from behind the net and suddenly Phoenix had numbers. JT's momentum was in the Phoenix zone and PAP has that 1-2 second thought process delay which kills our power play, but also kills his momentum to get back in his own zone.
In all honesty I would be more upset if the Islanders pulled a stunt like this if they were fighting for a playoff spot. As it stands now what exactly do we have to lose. Who knows maybe Lawson turns out to be the next Tim Thomas or Patrick Lalime(who I remember having a great start to his NHL career before the sort of fixzzled down to reality)
Losing is like drug or alcohol addiction.
You either stop hurting yourself and your family or you don't.
The Isles will never be a winning team until they stop acting like losers. So today, and every day forward:
stop doing stupid. Do EVERYTHING smart. Like you want nothing but victory.
Now it'll be twice as hard curing the fan excuse addiction. Fans addicted to excusing every stupid thing this team does have it as rough as heroin addicts. Or rap fans.

Yeah, I was not including Hillen in this equation. He was trash yesterday.
I guess you can't fault him for the first goal either. But let's be honest - he wasn't really tested, which usually means your D is having a good game. When he was tested, he failed.
