We need a top 2 defenseman way more than we need Iginla.

As much as I would love to have Iginla, the reality is that Calgary wants a player like Max, no way to agree to a deal without a "superstar" power forward one way, without another "promising" power forward in return.
That is just from this thread, if you want me to go through the other various threads it is just going to get worse.

Might as well try getting Brad Richards instead of Iggy

I don't think there's any reason not to be excited about Pacioretty He was the leading scorer of the AHL and he brings new weapons we didn't have. The Habs are giving him a real chance at a permanent top 6 role, that doesn't mean we expect him to have 40 goals this season.

Way more expensive at we have 3 offensive centers already, big pass.

Chemistry with Cammalleri is not a good enough reason to bring in a $7mil player in steep decline. Cammy plays well with pretty much everyone. He played well with Frolov in LA, leading folks to suggest bringing Frolov in as a UFA last offseason. He gelled right away with Plekanec. Finding linemates for Cammalleri should be the least of the Habs' worries.

Not much difference if Iggy was getting 5. I'll take BR over anyone we have right now down the middle.

Iginla would be a poor option. His best years are behind him. We already have centers for our top 2 lines with a backup on Eller.

It's just regular Hab fans drooling over the "power" forward, and refusing to realize that their fantasies are not realities. It was Sundin, then Lecavalier, now Iginla... The same that wanted a Price +firsts for Luongo or for Kovalchuk or other similar deals.

Fantasies is the right word for that. No connection to reality whatsoever but it strikes your imagination.

We have much more important needs in defense anyway.

For players like Iginla the cost is too high in a trade

wait until these guys are UFA.

i think the OP is just saying, iginla would fit in montreal as a sports city as well, iginla would be appreciated here, the fans would love him because of what he brings to a team, the guy FIGHTS for crissake, in mtl, we know hes never gonna score 50 again, but if iginla ever gave montreal 30 goals and hard work, leadership and grittiness, hed be a god here

(trade ak not max!)

Well, yeah, disregarding what it would cost us now, and our current situation on D....of course Iginla would be a welcome addition to any team.

We have Palushaj who could step up in the line-up on the first two lines and not look out of place.. We have guys like Leblanc Bournival for the upcoming years, if there is a team that can afford overpaying to get a top winger like Iginla, its us.. Of course, if you can have Iginla for less, thats great, but I would personally go as far as giving up the guys I named to get Jarome..

I have no doubt that a top 6 of Cammy-Plekanec-Iginla and Maxpac-Gomez-Gionta would probably be top 5 in the league. Flames are going nowhere this season, we have a lot of cap space and i have no doubt that we could resign Iginla to a long contract for a cap hit around 5 mil a season. I have no doubt
that if the Habs want him, this year is THE year to do it. I don't know what's his cost though, thus the thread.

*I will not post any proposal so that this thread does not end up in the proposal thread*
I don't think Iginla is the player the Habs need.

The salary and age to me doesn't help the Habs, plus the Habs need a top 6 guy, not a top 3.
