Ignore the Thrashers, Lightning, Caps, and Flyers

Who cares how many points Southeast Division and Atlantic Division teams wind up with. All the Habs have to do is finish ahead of the Bruins and they have it made, with a #3 seed in the bank. The Sabres, Senators, and Leafs are practically out of contention already.

What's your point? B's have a game on us, which if they win, they grab the "auto berth."

Be that as it may, every time the Panthers, Devils or even the Leafs beat a team ahead or close to us, its a small victory.

This reminds me of when Happy Gilmore realized he should just get a hole in one every time.

Yes, the Thrashers, Lightning, Caps are so far ahead right now we might as well forget about them.

buuuuuut, what if we don't finish ahead of them? Shouldn't we be in the top 8 anyway? That would be awful if the 3rd seeded team was behind the actual 8th seeded team pts wise. If the Bs or if we can't get 1st in the div, we should at leeeeast make it to 8th. I think we should "worry" and try to stay with the pack if not get to the top. Insurance is very important. Remember how we got in last year? And look how far we went.

Atlanta has had a wealth of young talent for a few years now, and much like Colorado, they're finally coming together. Adding pieces like Ladd & Byfulgien, plus the emergence of Pavelec (not so unsimilar to Price's re-emergence) has made them a legit threat imo. Maybe they won't be in the top of the conference when the season ends, but I fully expect them to make the playoffs.

My point being is we shouldn't ridicule "teams like Atlanta" anymore. Ditto for Tampa, if they get going again, they could be a very dangerous team. To disregard any team at this stage in the season is also madness - We're not even halfway through yet!

i agree, and we keep having chances to put some distance between us and the bruins and we fail. should of won the detroit game, toronto and colorado games. no excuses for letting these 3 go. we had the lead in 2 of them and well, the 3rd one is toronto.

If the two teams finished even in points the Habs would beat them out because they have more wins as of now (2 OT points vs. 4 for the Bruins). POlus, so far they have another tiebreaker, 2-0 in head-tohead games.

I don't think Atlanta is quite as good at their record. They're too much like last year's Habs: great goaltending, great PP, but they get outshot constantly and their puck possession at evens is poor. Not a bad club, they'll make the playoffs, but they're probably more of a 7-8 team than a division leader.

I'm very surprised by Byfuglien actually. Nothing in his history hints that he could be this good, especially as a defenseman -- there was a reason Chicago moved him back to forward as soon as they had enough bodies on D. Wouldn't surprise me to see him come back down to Earth at some point.

The Caps are floundering. I'd be more concerned about the Thrashers and Lightning.

Why don't you get it? Just beat out the Bruins and all the other teams become irrelevant. Oh yes, the Senators, Sabres, and Maple Leafs have to be considered (technically speaking) but they dodn't have a realistic chance.

Right now, the Habs shouldn't worry about nothing but the Dallas Stars. And starting tomorrow, they shouldn't worry about anything but the Carolina Hurricanes.

There is no reason to think that the Habs can't keep pace with the Thrashers and Lightning. They are playing well right now but they will have their own rough spells.

That's the fun thing about being a fan. We can talk about whatever we want because we don't have to worry about playing the games.

The chances of beating out the Bruins look to be better than beating out all the others. The only teams that don't look as though they have a chance are the Sens, Sabres, Leafs, Islanders, Devils, and Hurricanes. That leaves the Penguins, Flyers, Rangers, Bruins, Caps, Thashers, Lightning, and Panthers. We can't predict how all of them will do but the one almost guaranteed thing is that beating out the Bruins would give the Habs not only a playoff spot but the #3 seed. The Caps and Pens lost because they had awful goaltending that the Habs were able to exploit. The Flyers easily handled the Habs because they had decent goaltending that the Habs couldn't penetrate.

We're 8th in the East, 3 points out of 2nd.

This season is a crapshoot for everyone.

It would be funny if the Bruin's miss the playoffs It wouldn't be funny that they would probably get two top ten picks
