dont get me wrong this guy is still in the top two, nowhere nere dropping out of it, but wats wrong with him this season, hes far behind in all stat categories (but shots) and he could still come back but he seems to be playing lazy or has a problem, especially after watching 24/7 im thinking BB is the reason for his struggles and needs to take the boot
going to be interesting to see whether Ovy will be a top 10 player or a top 3 player over the next five years. He's lost a step this year, while a number of players gained a step.
A stanley cup might give him a bit more drive, Washington could still make some noise in the playoffs. Time will tell.
Lol firing BB would do nothing for him. BB lets him loose, plays the game in a pure offensive style that gives Ovechkin free reign over the offense, if another coach was brought in, he would not be forgiving on long shifts and floating. He would probably reign ovie in, make him play a tighter defensive game but would probably help his overall game a little more.
Dont jump to conclusions so quickly. Ovechkin is and will continue to be one of the worlds most explosive offensive players. A downswing in the first half of one season is not going to change that.

you clearly didnt read my post, i was clear stating he always will be dominant, i jw why hes in a slump

It's kinda funny, I actually just noticed this the other day, but all 3 major Russian players are slumping this year. Malkin, Kovalchuk, and Ovechkin. I guess maybe 4, since Semin has fallen off the boat as well. Weird season.
Teams decided to take away his time and space, even at the cost of leaving Semin or Backstrom open. The result is that Ovy's forcing passes he shouldn't, he's not being patient enough. He'll adjust, though it may take him some time.
I think there are a few reasons why AO isn't as AO-like this year. IMO the biggest reason is that he's trying to round out his game and thats a really hard thing to do. He might end up being a better player for it in the end. He's still insanely great though.
Less speed and explosiveness than I remember, perhaps he's carrying more weight? Probably a combo of things and growing pains as a player adjusting their game, and team struggles don't help.
After watching 24/7 I have to seriously wonder about Ovechkin off the ice.
He looks and acts like some Russian gangster boy. He has that huge piece of bling around his neck. He sings in Russian night clubs and likes to party it up. The loud funny act worked for 5 years, but its time to grow up.
The guy is having fun out there, sure. But maybe its time to take everything a bit more seriously off the ice. He isn't a kid now. If he wants to reach his full potential.
Anyone agree ?
I don't think he would get away with a lot of the things he does on a team like Detroit.
I think the Capitals and the Coach are somewhat to blame for OV going off the rails.
Hopefully its just one bad year, which most players would kill to have.
Don't kid yourselves folks, Ovy is still one of the best players in the world. Players go through slumps. The Capitals as a TEAM have fallen on hard times of late... and as the team goes, so do the players.
He's still 8th in league scoring, and yes, we know his goal totals aren't there, but he will bounce back. I say he goes on a streak and ends the season with ~40.

Semin's always been streaky. One week he'll look like Gretzky on roids, next week he could pass for Kirk Maltby with a broken leg.
Anywho, Datsyuk's been playing very well this season. Kovalchuk is having a very bad year, Ovechkin isn't actually Ovechkin, he's an alien substitution but he's still put up passable number and Malkin was fighting a nagging injury
Oh, and it's been pointed out that Ovechkin's latest "Low goal streak" involved him scoring only 2 goals on 79 shots through the past 17 games, and that the laws of math say eventually things might even out a bit.

The "law of averages" doesn't exist. If such a law did exist, then it would have prevented a 2 goals in 17 games scoring drought from happening in the first place.
