I think it's right. 1.5 from Leighton, 1.7 (that # for Walker still boggles my mind), and Lappy on LTIR should get them close to that 4.5. But I'd really hate to see Homer get them right up against the cap and end up in a situation like the Devils earlier or the Flames last year where somebody's nicked up and we're playing with less than 18 skaters.

1) The cap is calculated daily.

2) LTIR money isn't truly free cap space.

I absolutely believe Homer is interested in Jarko Ruutu - because it makes absolutely no sense. The guy is a 2 minute minor waiting to happen, he's slow and has no hands.

Now Tuomo Ruutu on the other hand - sounds a lot better to me.

Tuomo sounds real nice on a 3rd line with Richards and Hartnell.

We could call it... the pain line... or something more clever, but you get the idea.

prorating cap space is pretty much useless at this point since our ltir exemptions are a bigger number. why bother bringing it up?

1 - You're right...but all that means is we couldn't waive 1.5M worth of Leighton now and turn around and add a 2.5M AAV player at the deadline based on the savings from now until then. If we're removing 4.5 worth of AAV we can add 4.5 worth of AAV though.

2 - Yes, but in Lappy's case if he's not expected to return (and I haven't heard any mention of a possible return, sadly) then they can use his salary slot on other player(s). But again, you can't LTIR a guy in October and "save" that money all year and use it on a player; that's why Lappy wasn't LTIR'd immediately, there was no need.

They problem they'll have if they try to add salary using the space created by Walker's LTIR stint is if Walker is fit to play. Correct me if I'm wrong but they'll need to activate Walker before they waive him or whatever they might have in mind. And they'd need to clear space to do it. If it was now, they could LTIR Pronger, activate and waive Walker, then activate Pronger when he's fit to play; but if they use the space and activate Pronger before making a decision re: Walker then they'll need to find some other creative way to clear some room.

I would love Tuomo Rutuu. Still one of my favorite goals of all time:

Don't think he'll wind up here though.

I remember when Tuomo Ruutu was going to be a star.

And Finland needs to bring those jerseys back.

One player in whom I'd be interested is Chris Higgins. He's a 2-way LW with decent hands, and he's on a 1-year contract worth $1.6 mil. He'd work well on a third-line role.

I wouldn't mind that. I thought we should have tried to sign him in the off season.

I think we could use someone with size. Someone like Cody McCormick or Brad Winchester on the fourth line could help. Or someone for the top nine would be nice.

His biggest criticism for a couple seasons or so now has been not being able to hit an open net.

The one thing I would really like on this team for the playoffs is a circa-2005 Knuble-type guy. Big dude to get some garbage goals at big moments.

Only thing this team could really use is a goalie and even that's extremely difficult to pull off for a number of reasons.

Not like we have a lot of tradeable assets anyways. We don't really have any tradeable assets on the NHL roster because pretty much everyone on our NHL roster is necessary for the Cup run. Don't have any good prospects or even expendable prospects really because we haven't had our 1st 2nd round picks in God knows how long. Probably wouldn't be wise to trade our 1st for the aforementioned reason and because our 2nd is already gone.

Other then Vokoun, there isnt another goalie out there that really improves our team anyway(or if they do, no one is trading them)

That too.

In all likelihood, this will be almost exactly the same team that we have for the playoffs. There's an outside shot of Vokoun and minor guys like Walker and Leighton will probably get moved around, but that's it.

Then again, our GM is Paul Holmgren so who knows anymore really. Trading Zherdev and getting a mediocre point producer to replace him seems like it might happen though with the way Zherdev keeps getting put in the dog house.

I wouldnt be surprised if Homer either trades for another 4th line guy or a 6/7th d-man....again. He seems to like to stock up on them.

same here. the problem is there are so few of those guys out there. we may have the assets to get pyatt from pheonix but i doubt atlanta parts with stewart and jokinen is probably too expensive both in salary and assetts for a guy who might be done. id really like tyo get my hands on hansen from toronto, the kid just screams flyer hockey

I would like a guy like Pyatt because the Flyer's could use some size but I think their PK could use some help even more at this point. Freddy Sjostrom would be a good pick up.

Betts - Nodl
Powe - Sjostrom

That would be two solid PK units and would help keep Richards & Giroux fresh.

Is Jonas Hedberg an upgrade over Boucher?

Am I the only one who would like to pick up Valabik off of waivers? He's decent in his own zone, on the PK, and can clear the crease. So he should be at least as good as Bart as a 6/7th guy, but with a hell of a lot more potential then Bart. Plus, if we pick him up off of waivers, his cap hit is like barely existent.

How good would David Clarkson look in the Flyer's lineup?

Clarkson - Richards - Giroux (That line would be a pain in the ass to lineup against)
Hartnell - Briere - Leino
JVR- Carter - Nodl
Shelly/Carcillo - Betts - Powe

Carle + for Clarkson + Andy Greene

Move Z.

I wouldn't mind Valabik. Would make guys like Bartulis and Walker easily expendable. Maybe package Bartulis and Carcillo for a guy like Sjostrom or Taylor Pyatt
