He's underrated by the rest of the league if anything.

Hannan is at $4.5 this year. Would he take a discount like Poti $2.85 avg or is he worth considering resigning at $4.5 or higher? He may not be interested in giving a home town discount and may want more.

I don't see Hannan staying with us ever since we signed Erskine (6th/7th) D Man to that 1.5 million dollar contract. The money is just not there come time to sign Alzner/Carlson. The only way Hannan resigns is if Poti is moved, and then we would be looking for around 2.25-2.75 million for 2-3 years

Poti might end up with a medical "retirement". I question whether he can play anymore. If that happens, Hannan might stay.

Why say you come in peace? Caps fans don't have any beef with Avs fans, as far as I know.

Hannan started out rough for the first 8-9 games, then settled down. These days, you don't hear his name often during games which is what you want from a defensive-minded d-men. As of now, the Caps' D-corp are muuuuuch better than prior year(s).

Washington's defense has been rock solid, and that change is closely linked to the period associated with Hannan's arrival. This came just as the Caps were experimenting with more defensive schemes, challenging veteran Caps who had been playing in a more free-form system for years. They would do well to retain him, but the team has six defensemen signed plus RFA-to-be Alzner for next season, so there may be limited room. He's been exactly what they hoped he would be, unless any fans were expecting transition or other offensive prowess, which was never in his tool set in the first place. He's been very good in an area where the Caps needed to shore up. It seems to be a trade that has panned out marvelously for both sides.

That trade is this year's Pouliot-Latendresse. Hannan has been the man we always wished for Green to have, and hasn't been letting anyone down, at least any more than this team in general has. Every player is prone to mistakes, we've seen Pronger and Lidstrom smoked a time or three, but Hannan-Green has been everything we could have asked for.

Not to me. He was simply a player who was never a game breaker. Ain't gonna make an important play, and thus... was entirely forgettable.

That being said, a defenceive minded D-man, even somewhat unspectacular, is a welcome addition.

Yeah, he's slowly getting better and better as he gets more familiar, which is exactly why I was so glad we made that deal in December rather than the end of February. Hannan and the team will both benefit greatly from the extra 10 weeks of acclimation time.

Oil fan, who just wanted to know if Hannan plays with Green or not? I know Carlson and Alzner play together. So that leaves Green, Poti, Schultz and Hannan.

Hannan played with Green while Schultz was out with injury, and a little bit after, but right now it's Schultz and Green. It's not clear which pairing will be seen more often going forward.

Green and Sarge a combined +6 last game may have solidified that pairing for the rest of the season. Sarge did take that big offside slapper to earn a plus proper but otherwise, I didnt notice that pairing more than any other, to be honest.

Bruce must be thrilled to no end to see Green and Sarge do well. Bruce doesnt seem to take to new players very quickly. Yet Hannan got time with Green, I am thrilled that he saw others can do well with Green. I wonder how Hannan feels. Told he has to sit to learn, yet that system he had to sit to learn kinda failed right in his face. Now and seemingly permanently relegated to 3rd pairing duty, I see him only getting top 4 responsibilities covering injuries. This year is committed to teaching the kids on D. And that's fine.

Still a great pickup, great job George. Flash bless his heart was injury prone. Freaky injuries.

I think that would depend on what 3rd pair duty is. He played 17:56. Carlson and Alzner played 18:25 and 18:43. Hannan lead the team in short handed minutes(all toronto numbers).

Check the date of the post, it was well before the most recent news about Flash's PE.

A lot of us liked what we saw with the Hannan-Green pairing when Schultz got hurt, but it's been mostly Schultz-Green and Hannan-Erskine/Poti since then.

Splitting hairs debating bottom pair. Having the lowest TOI is what it is, no matter how trivial. Look no further than his ES partner. He is in our bottom pairing for now and for the forseeable future. Can that be disputed? Sure, we have more depth than ever so he gets solid TOI, but still, that third pair listed is considered bottom pair.

Sarge and Green are back, baby. Carlson Alzner are well documented and eating up a lot of TOI and top responsibilities.

Hannan is a defensive specialist that is mentoring the kids as they watch him do his thing. From the bottom pair.

i am not sure why you would describe playing 30 seconds more as eating up TOI while 30 seconds less is getting 3rd pair minutes.

30 seconds is one more shift.

if the caps rolled two pairs with the third getting an occasional shift, i am sure he'd be bothered. if they are rolling 3 pairs and he is on the first pk unit, i am not sure why he would care at all.

a quick look thru some of the games that hannan played with green, hannan's minutes were consistant with what his minutes are without green. he played 16 and change in the winter classic. he played 18 in a win vs the panthers. he played 16 in a loss to tampa bay. whats different is that green's minutes come down as well in those games.

carlson and alzner get more minutes when green is paired with hannan. green gets more minutes than carlson and alzner when paired with schultz.

just by looking at that, i would say that the caps are trying to manage hannan's minutes
