Lame Day Thread: 26 Dec 2010 - Gentlemen, start your bottles - vs. Detroit - 6PM, FSN

@
(21-9-4, 46pts) - (16-13-4, 36pts)

6pm, Xcel Energy Center

Hey, so that 3-game win streak we've got going? I hope you've been enjoying it; it's going to be the last good thing to come out of this Wild team for a while now. We've got Detroit tonight, then Columbus tomorrow (and you know how the tail ends of back-to-backs seem to go), and then San Jose. Not exactly a home-and-home with Calgary.

Detroit is the best team in the Western Conference right now, tied with the South Stars. (Wait, seriously? Dallas is in first? Ouch, salt in the wound.) They are an entirely different breed from the teams we've been facing as of late, with scorers like Datsyuk, Zetterburg, Lidstrom, and holy crap the list just keeps going. And to make matters worse, they picked up that crapbag Bertuzzi. He always seems to make life easier for the Wild . With lineups like that, even vaguely-competent goaltending (which Detroit has in great supply!) will be plenty to shut down the Wild.

Let's flash back to last time we played Detroit. Remember that "thrilling OT win?" Remember how shocked we all were? Remember how it felt like it was all going to collapse in on us at any moment? Yeah, well now we don't seem to be winning those "games we didn't deserve to win" anymore, and it shows.

Richards decided to keep the lines as they are, as modifying them in anticipation of an opponent with a completely different style would be proactive, and we can't have that, no siree.

Brunette-Koivu-Kobasew
Bouchard-Brodziak-Havlat
Clutterbuck-Cullen-Miettinen
O’Sullivan-Madden-Nystrom

Schultz is cleared to play by medical, but will be sitting this one out:

Zanon-Zidlicky

Scandella-Burns
Spurgeon-Stoner

Backs will be in net. Theo tomorrow night.

Happy Boxing Day, everyone. Easy on the whiskey, at least 'till the third.

Datsyuk out = good news...

And if Theo is in net, that'd be perfect but I don't think it will happen.

The Wild don't belong on the same ice with the Western Conference Dynasty that has been the Red Wings.

Lidstrom is by far the best D-man since Orr, and he takes the Wild to school each time... expect more of the same from the Norris Trophy front-runner.

The Wild will get out shot by a factor of 3, but will get out scored by a factor or 4!

Wings blow the Wild back to St.Paul 12-3.

we're gonna get pwn3d.

Datsyuk will have a goal and an assist even if he's on IR

Wow! I love all of the optimism here but when the Wild play to their capabilities they aren't as bad a team as everyone seems to think. Yes, the Wings are the gold standard in the NHL; however, in spite of the fact the Wild haven't had their leading goal scorer since October and the fact DR basically ran this team into the ground from a future standpoint.

The Wild are only 10 points from the top spot in the west and while they won't catch Detroit this season it tells you the razor thin difference between being very good and being mediocre is AND while the Wild continue to build their prospect pool a high pick next summer and the continuing development of the guys already drafted can close that gap fairly quickly.

Hey now! The negativity thing has been working the last few games. Don't rock the boat!

I'll be in attendance as I like seeing Hall of Fame type talent on the backend do their thing from up above. Nothing better in sports viewing in my opinion.

Time for a good asskicking! Wings will walk away with this one. They don't really stop playing hockey after they're up by four so...6-1 Wings? backs stays in the whole time.

4-2 Detroit sadly. Dats might be out, but there is a ton of depth on my other team and if Howard is in net it'll be just that much harder for us. I think the 2nd period is the death of us again.

Detroit Goals:
Zets
Rafalski
Franzen
Lids

Minnesota Goals:
Havlat
Clutterbuck

Wild kick Red Wing ass and further cripple the Detroit economy.

Hopefully we can somehow win this one, but I'm not feeling too optimistic about it.

So yeah, I can watch the game too but won't.

I prefer watching the Wild getting destroyed tonight.

I'm afraid both of my teams (MIN, FIN) are gonna get blown out tonight.

Checking in from the X. Highlight of the game so far has been the cheese curds and that the audio crew has played Manchester Orchestra. That is all.

Great drive by Mittens there; too bad nobody was there to pick him up.
