Bill Meltzer weighs in (and rips the entire team in his latest blog). This part is my favourite though:

Quote:
Meanwhile, Jody Shelley (dressing for a game for the first time since his two-game suspension) couldn't avoid doing something stupid. He drew a match penalty for suckering Andrew Alberts and now faces another disciplinary hearing with the league office. I'll resist the temptation to say that something positive for the Flyers may come from the game after all.

10 bucks says Holmgren will strongly disagree with any suspension his boy gets. which btw cant be enough. I wish the clown would just go away.
Where is this guy that some Ranger fans, and a couple certian posters said we would love. You know who you are. Shelley is a stupid, terrible hockey player. What a waste of a contract.

Maybe some good news regarding Timonen.

From Sam:

Told Timonen is walking around as if nothing happened. He will apparently practice today

respect to the Flyers fans who were angry about Shelley, special nod to the gentleman who apologized for it in the Canucks thread, shows far more class than the players who commit acts like that

If Lucic was not suspended for sucker punching Meyer, Shelley should not be suspended either. Is that how it works in the NHL?

Lucic didn't even get a 3rd man in in the playoffs last year when Savard and he tag teamed Richards with sucker punches.

The man seems invincible.

Timonen is a machine, hope he plays tomorrow. Maybe Gust will go in as 7th D and we can keep Timonen's minutes down a bit

Actually ref was holding Lucic and he threw a punch which makes things even worse.

Last time someone did somethign like that was Brasher (when he played for Caps) he fought Shanny and while refs was escorting him off the ice he threw a punch at Ward (he was running his mouth, he dropped Ward) and got a few games. Do not remember how many games he got.

But I think Shelley will get Carcillo like punishment (when he dropped Bradley) in that 8:2 game against Washington.

Not that I care about Shelley.

Looks like a 2-game suspension for Shelley.

Shelley gets 2 games according to Flyers facebook

The fact that it was his first game played since his last suspension makes it look even worse

I was tired and had turned the game off by that point. But if they could take that ******** 9 minute penalty Carcillo took and just extrapolate it into games for Shelley, on top of however games he gets for the incident alone, that would be great.

There is a fairly good chance Timonen will play Thurs. in LA. He's being held out of practice as a precaution

There has yet to be a description beyond the mundane "lower body injury" nor has the reason he was removed last night been isolated. The inconsistency, too, with the injury report following the game last night is puzzling.

When designing their new battle tank, I hope the Army uses Timonen as the model.

I'm thinking that some of this may be a masking tactic... May be a short-term concern that was treated with precaution last night and is good enough to go, but is not 100%... By not giving ANY info whatsoever the Kings and subsequent teams cannot target the injury, nor have any clue as to how he will play.

After all we need not know the extent nor background of the injury... and the Flyers need to plow on in this long and rough road trip that is missing their key D-man and arguably heart and soul of the team... Kimmo another such player is needed and is being shielded; we are being kept in the dark, as i the opposition.

... Buying any of that?

Seriously though... that makes the most sense to me on this whole situation.

That may be outlawed by the Geneva Convention though.

Holy hell, that was one ugly game. As much as it was not the Flyers best game, I can absolutely see the Canucks winning the cup this year if they stay healthy. They're just ridiculous, top to bottom. And Kesler is a total beast...guy is seriously one of the best players in the league. A shame he wasn't stolen back in '06 on that offer sheet.

Carter's ass should have been benched after that sixth goal. Tambellini came from about five strides behind him to zoom down the ice and put that puck home. If Carter actually backchecks there, he absolutely has a chance to be in position to swat that puck out of there. No excuse for **** like that.

As for Shelley, he doesn't mind all these suspensions and salary forfeitures...you see, heading into this offseason he thought he might've been spending this year working the photo counter at Walgreen's for 8 bucks an hour. The way he figures it...he's now got cash to spare, and suckerpunching people and having days off are both fun things. Days where he gets to sit at home laughing maniacally all day long while wiping his ass with hundred dollar bills and rolling around in all the cash he still has.

20 bucks he doesnt say a word and opens his cheeks even further and lets the nhl stick it to the orginization again. Such a shame snider and the whole crew wont say anything. That was one thing that made this orginization great at one time, they were nto afraid to voice their opiniona nd would tell the league to go pound sand.

There's truth to that.

There was a policy change, maybe 2-3 years ago, where GMs elected to limit medical information for regular season games, similar to the method used so often in playoffs. The terms "upper body" and "lower body" were heightened because of it, some in the media were unhappy and mentioned that conjecture would lead to erroneous reports.
