So what does Clouston do? Puts Michalek back up there and Regin giving bite sized opportuinites while Foligno gets all the time and opportunity in the world to turn it around, which, thankfully, he has.

Regin has been mishandled and the confidence that was built up out of injury necessity in the playoffs was completely mismanaged by Clouston. I am hoping with this chance he gets that he can turn his season around, but it is tough when the coach has written you off.

He could have said, instead of slacking Locke, that "we are giving Peter another chance to step up". No need to piss on Locke...this coach sucks.
This is patently untrue. Foligno has been given just as much time on the 4th line as Regin. They've both had plenty of opportunities to be in the Top 6.

And need I repeat? Regin has 1 freaking goal this year. I don't care where you're playing in the lineup, that's awful. Chris Kelly has 8 goals playing exclusively on the 3rd line.

Saying the Sens have screwed Regin is absolutely hillarious. They rewarded his playoff performance (should it be also mentioned this spurt came through 6 measley games?) by giving him a huge raise in the offseason and giving him a spot in the Top 6 for the vast majority of the 1st half of the season while having offensive players be his linemates. He has repaid this generosity by producing next to nothing and being invisible on most nights. They finally have had to face some realities and cut back his icetime.

Now he's getting an undeserved 2nd chance to do something despite there being no signs in his recent play that he's ready to suddenly become a sniper. How you can say that the organization hasn't been completely behind him is beyond me.

I would love to see this article. Even if it exists, I'm guessing you've misread it's meaning entirely.

No, it's true. Murray said he'd gone to bat with the coaches for Foligno.

But this was near the end of the "Foligno in the top 6" experiment.

Well I have watched all the games as have you and I think it is near unequivocal that Foligno has been given more opportunity from the start of camp than Regin.

We may agree to disagree on that one.

I think that for all the hockey pundits to predict 25 goals had to come from somewhere did it not? No one predicted that for Nick Foligno, that's for sure. He was a young player whose second half of the season had opened a lot of eyes.

His raise was not huge by any stretch, he is just over a mil isn't he?

They have screwed him because Clouston made a mess of training camp. This team was not ready to play because he kept screwing around with the roster when we all knew who was going to be on the ice come October. Like Keller, Kinrade, seriously? Lines should have been together, they played 2 games with their opening day rpster and then people complain about lack of chemistry or powerplay practice? Regin-Spezza-Alfredsson had the makings of a great line, so what does Clouston do? Ditches it. They played well against a powerhouse like Pittsburgh where Regin stepped up. Then he gets bashed because Foligno scores some meaningless goals in pre-season...Regin was playing fourth line in pre-season for ffs-sake...stupid.

Guys like Shannon, Michalek, Kovalev and Kuba get all the rope in the world, but Clouston bashes guys like Regin , Carkner and Lee?

This team can't score a goal and we called up Smith?

Locke deserves a chance....

It was in the Sun, and that is almost to the letter what Murray was quoted as saying.

And yet, Foligno still has played many games on the 4th line this year so it's of little consequence.

To blame the Sens organization or Clouston for Regin's failure to score more than 1 goal this year is just silly. As I've pointed out, there are lots of other players on this team who have had less icetime and lesser linemates than Regin who have been able to produce a lot more than he has.

Nowhere else for Peter to look to other than the mirror.

Also, can we dial it back on the godlike accomplishments from the playoffs? He scored a few goals based mainly on being able to finish Spezza's passes. It was over the course of 6 games and the Sens lost 4 of those games. He may not be the 2nd coming that some here seem to believe. Let's not have another Oleg Saprykin discussion.

So Regins playoff performance last year wasn't even his own doing? When he does good its someone else, when he does bad its completely on him. Seems fair.
Regin for a 6th rounder?

Obviously good for him for his accomplishments during that series but let's put it in context. It was over 6 games where he may have been highlighted more than he would have normally because of the intensity of the playoffs and the fact that not many of the Sens forwards were doing much of anything during that time.

But it's a ridiculously small sample size and if you look at his achievements over a longer period, they fall more in line with a player who isn't necessarily a scoring forward in the NHL. It takes nothing away from his abilities as an NHLer, just that there may be some unrealistic expectations heaped on the guy because some things seemed to click for him for a couple of weeks last April. Of course, maybe he does eventually become an NHL scoring forward but outside of those 6 games, I don't see the evidence of that right now.

I'm not suggesting the organization give up on him or not dress him because he's a useful player who is smart, skates well and is responsible defensively. They should maybe just be trying other options in the Top 6 at the moment given that he hasn't really done anything there with a multitude of chances so far this year.

Meh, I'd take Regin over Foligno any day of the week...in my opinion he has much more potential to be a consistent top 6 forward in this league.

Thanks for finding it. And as I stated above, since Foligno found himself on the 4th line shortly thereafter where he's shuttled back and forth from there to other lines since, it seems like overall, this is of little consequence and doesn't really have anything to do with some kind of perceived hate-on the organization has for Regin.

In fact, they obviously still are solidly behind him given that he's been inserted into Spezza's spot despite there being no evidence so far this year that he can produce offensively no matter where or who he's playing with. So let's put that conspiracy theory to bed okay?

Just about all of them have had multiple chances, nobody is scoring with any consistency.

IMO Regin has a better overall game than Foligno, and while Foligno does have 4 goals to Regin's 1, their point differential is ONE!!!!

I am not against either player, they are both young and generally work hard, for anyone to blame them for the lack of production is ludicrous, specially when they play with vets that aren't doing much.

I don't think either of them are Top 6 forwards and I don't get why some fans seem to think that pointing out Regin's weaknesses is an endorsement of Foligno. They have nothing to do with each other.

For one game, Kelly is now in that spot!!!!

I don't think there is a conspiracy either. I do at times think Clouston has different rules for different players, and maybe, just maybe, Murray speaking up for Foligno colours his judgement a little.

Nobody on the team is scoring with consistency but they've all got more than the 1 goal Regin has. He has to take some kind of responsibility for that, he's a big boy, I think it's allowed.

Too early to make that judgement IMO, they both need support from their veteran linemates, and it just isn't there.

They are developing still, and not in a very good place presently.

If anyone expects either of them to carry one of the top two lines, pure dreaming.

I agree they shouldn't be expected to carry a top two line I just think that fans sometimes forget that these guys are young guys...this is Regin's 3rd year in NA...that's' a big transition that I'm sure he's working through in stages. I will admit to never being a fan of Foligno's (at least not the way the team has had him develop). I see him as a solid third line winger in the league I just see more in Regin. I don't think Regin has played up to what he's capable of playing to...no doubt some of that has to do with his contract and him needing to get through this sophmore phase of his career. I don't think he's the saviour of the team but I do see him as a very solid contributing 50 point top 6 player in the league (with Ottawa or with someone else).
