Well guess Im the only one, I do have mixed emotions. While some of his trades were questionable, it was great to see a GM try hard. Most of the GM's out there sit on their derierre. The thought of Jay Feaster long term scares the bejesus out of me.

If their is a rebuild emminent, lets see the first big trade for youth, then I will believe. Im not convinced ownership agrees with a total rebuild. The soap opera continues

Fantastic news. Just an excellent way to start the new year.

But I agree with others who said Feaster should only be an interim GM. His track record is terrible even with a cup ring. Hopefully his power is limited to just selling as many assets from now until the deadline and his mandate to be just acquiring as many picks as possible. Then, over the course of the rest of the season, ownership look for a permanent GM, like Nill or Fenton.

I know I'm a Habs fan and I hate Gauthier as well... but you guys shouldn't get too high too quickly. Feaster was a mess in Tampa and left this team with no farm system and managed his assets very poorly.

Sutter, for all what he did wrong, still has to get some credit. He found a lot of underwhelming players who came on his team and looked great afterwards (Huselius, Bourque, Glencross, Nolan, Bertuzzi just to name a few). More recently, he pulled a great move with Tanguay.

It's true. But let's not forget Amonte, Friesen, Marchment, Eriksson, Kotalik, Hale, it goes on.

If it hadn't been for Sutter, there wouldn't have been any expectations for this team other than bottom dwellers as they had been when he arrived. There wouldn't have been any Kiprusoff and there wouldn't have been that year when they made it to the finals.

Thank you for your service Darryl.

He also got Cammalleri.

But he also let Cammy go for nothing, traded for Jokinen, signed Jokinen again, traded for Kotalik, signed Sarich to a big deal (other people think that ones bad, not so much with me), traded for Staios, traded Phaneuf for pennies and then signed Stajan to a stupid deal, handed out NTC/NMC like candy, mismanaged the cap, etc.

Plus the proof is in the pudding. The Flames are spending technically over the cap, yet we are in the bottom ten in the league.

It's a Christmas miracle I've been dreaming of for the better part of 3 years now

The only thing Feaster should be doing is calling Pierre to ask him when he's ready to start.

Glad to see Darryl Sutter step down, because it all honesty it was long overdue. I will echo the sentiment that I'm not entirely sure that Jay Feaster is the best candidate to take over for him.

I know I've read a lot about what he did for the Lightning when he was brought on as assistant GM but I never really bought the hype. My biggest issue is I'm not really sure what his track record is as a GM because I can't distinguish him from Rick Dudley.

wait... so you;re saying other than the Kotalik trade Sutter's worst mistakes are signing Amonte, Frisen, Marchment, Eriksson and Hale to cheap 1 and 2 year deals?... you just proved the "what have you done for me lately" mentality that consumes sports fans... fact of the matter is if you take away the Jokinen/Kotalik trade and maybe the Phaneuf trade and Sutter had a pretty good run with the Flames

Welcome to sports?

This is a business based on results. "What have you done for me lately" is what drives the sports industry. You can't sit on something or someone because hypothetically they made a great trade 4 years ago. I also believe Sutter did more good than bad but it was his time to go we can all agree there.

Sitter was good with trades before the jokinen deal

He has always been awful with draft picks and find the right coaches

congrats to the fans, I'm not a flames fan but I've heard lots of complaints about the Sutters for the better part of two seasons so I know you're happy

Great news! Definitely a step in the right direction for this organization.

I don't mind Feaster as an AGM, but I don't want him as GM in a permanent basis.

As a Flames fan, I appreciate Daryll Sutter's contribution to this hockey club, and it's too bad that his vision didn't pan out as planned. I'm sure this was the best move for him, providing him more time to spend at home to take care of his family. The question stands... are we now in rebuild?

Agreed. I'm glad that Sutter is finally gone, but I'm not sold on the idea of Feaster running the show long term. Pierre as GM is an interesting prospect to ponder, there's no denying his knowledge of junior players around the world.
