I'm trying to figure out how they trade a 2nd round pick in 2011 when they dont even have a 2nd round pick. It was traded to Florida last yr in the Dominic Moore deal at/near the deadline. So is that pick really the 2012 2nd rounder or did Montreal acquire another 2nd rounder that I'm not aware of?

According to the following site, they dont own a 2nd rounder in 2011:

How are they going to trade Markov for a top 6 forward. He has zero value being done for the year and becoming a free agent in the off season.

He has 10 in his last 25, six of them in his last six. He's inconsistent at both ends of the ice. Always seem to start out nice when playing with a new team but then slows down. He will play like a #2 or #3 for 10 games and then like a bottom pairing defenseman for another 10 games. A 2nd + a 5th seems legit to me considering that he's becominga UFA this summer.

I also like how this second rounder is the compensatory pick for David Fischer. Looks like he was a valuable asset after all!

can someone explain the 5th rounder? Is that given to the isles if he re-signs with montreal? or does it change into something better if he re-signs with montreal?

At least they only gave up a 3rd for him... I wish Murray tried to make a deal for him.

Wisniewski is a middling player. Overrated by some upon his acquisition by NYI, this should not be viewed as more than a good depth move by the Habs. (I mean, really..."Great"?..."Win by a landslide"? You'd think the Habs just acquired Bobby Orr. )
agreed all around.

Well, the Habs only have two defenceman under contract for next year: Spacek and Subban, with Gill, Hamrlik, Markov, Gorges, Wisniewski, Picard becoming UFA during the summer. As for I, I hope we get rid of Spacek, and re-sig Gill, Gorges, Markov and Wis:

Markov - Subban
Gill - Wiesniwski
Gorges - Weber

I was under the impression that the 5th would be if he re-signed but now that you say it it might be a 5th, and if he re-signs it's a higher pick.

It's the 2nd Round Pick we got as compensation for not signing the failure that is David Fischer

Kind of like David Fischer and a 5th for Wisniewski from our POV

Very excited to have Wiz on the team, I had him eyed up as a suitable pick-up for a while now

I was hoping that they'd give Weber more of an opportunity this year but I guess this puts him and Picard on the outside for now?

Our whole team is made of bottom pairing defencemen, so no difference to the Habs.

I'm an Isles' fan and I'm pissed, but it's more like "lol" at Murray than "lol" at Snow..

Snow just flipped Colorado's 3rd rounder for a 2nd rounder and a 5th rounder.

Based on his recent play, that may be a good thing.

Don't think he's going anywhere for a while.

Yes they can.
http://twitter.com/#!/capgeek/status/19872426795999232
"#nhl #canadiens could acquire (today) a player with a full-season cap hit of $3.5m-$4m after Wisniewski trade http://*******/hVNNZG"

http://twitter.com/#!/capgeek/status/19872636263735296
"That full-season cap hit would shrink to somewhere between $2.8m and $3.3m by the trade deadline on Feb. 27 http://*******/fAdY6V"

Well, they can afford Bieksa if they trade for him soon.

Edit: I just checked myself, and January 14th is the very latest that Bieksa could be traded to Montreal.
