Gauthier >>> Murray

Last year Murray gives the Islanders a 2nd for a bottom pair D in Sutton
This season Gauthier gives the Islanders a 2nd for a D on pace for 50Pts playing 23 minutes a night

wow

Islanders must have been worried that NJ would finish last.

Very nice trade for the Isles. We got more back than what we gave up for him. Good luck to Wiz in the playoff race.

Why lol @ Garth. The Islanders season was over when Streit & Okposo went down. He acquired Wizniewski for a 3rd round DP, had him play for 35 games, and then got a 2nd & a 5th for him.

While I don't like going with an totally overmatched team - why move Wiz now? He'd have similiar value in a couple of months at the trade dealine, and the Isle would at least have a legit 2nd pair guy on the roster.

Only if you look at the trade out of context and ignore why Murray traded Wisniewski.

Murray did not move him in the summer to acquire assets. He moved him to rid his team of an entire year's salary of $3 mil. Period. Mission accomplished.

The player's "trade value" was lower at the time he was moved to NYI by virtue of the receiving team being on the hook for a full year's salary.

Now, the Habs have to pay out less money. Hence, a higher pick.

NHL trades are the moving of contract$ as much, if not more, than talent.

Great deal.

Was hoping he could come to Boston and he ends up in Montreal

Why the Habs didn't sign Fischer?

Because they wouldn't have obtained Wiz for him. That's a pretty good reason.

Late December vs. late February = two more months of paychecks. Snow just saved Wang > $1,000,000*.

Economic$.

*Which may be temporary, in the event NYI adds another NHL salaried player (Rolston?).

not bad deal for the isles - they get the 50th pick next year + a 5th. habs get another puck-mover who will play the pp. i suspect gauthier is not done. pouliot could be getting dealt - or kostitsyn...would love to see spacek dealt for a pick..but most likely weber gets sent down. to the poster talking about habs resigning markov?
they will. hammerlik and gill's 10 million come off books at end of year - and they may deal spacek. gauthier's task is to turn habs D young like gainey did with forwards two years ago.

Considering how the isle's season is going, he probably would have contacted Ebola before they could trade him at the deadline.

From a ducks fan to isles fans that are pissed about this trade, wiz is a pain in the *** with contract negotiations. He wants too much money for a too short of term. In all honesty if he didn't get traded within the next couple weeks he would end up a free agent by July 1st. I was expecting a prospect at least coming back but oh well.

I love how people automatically know the ins and outs of whats going on within a team.

Is it not possible that Snow was trying to re-sign Wis to a long term deal and was rejected? Or Wis wanted way too much money for what he brings? This a lottery team, they have little need for a UFA defenseman that isn't staying, a second round pick isn't all that bad for Wis.
