Wow. Absolutely disgusting. I hope Marincin's gone for the tournament.

How is anybody even defending this hit? Blatant elbow to the head away from the puck...what is there to even defend?

As for comparing it to Zucker's hit last year...2 differences...1) the Slovak dman last year had the puck and 2) Zuckers hit last year was not a blatant hit to the head.

The only ones defending Marincin are a few Edmonton fans who seem to equate drive-by headshots as some form of prairie justice from the days of yore.

I'd imagine if it were one of their players getting cold-cocked in the head away from the play, they might see things differently.

This kind of away-from-the-play garbage has no business in hockey.

Dirty hit but we all know it was a retaliation for last year so for saying they wish fighting was allowed in these tournaments well me too because if it was then Zucker could have answered for his hit instead of getting a cheapshot for his cheapshot.

If it was retaliation for last year, that means it was over a year premeditated which makes it even worse. And retaliation for what exactly? Are you not allowed to hit Slovak defensemen?

JH, I certainly hope that you aren't defending Marincin's actions. I'm an Oiler fan who happens to think that it was a totally uncalled for cheapshot, there are other ways to stand up for your teammates and this isn't one of them.

I love the reactions in this thread. "It was a dirty hit, but it's retribution, so it's ok."

if you think that hit was anything like the hit Zucker made last year you have a lot more catching up to do with regard to hockey than just learning to play "physical".

edit: would almost love to see Hall elbowed in the face away from the play by Regehr just to read some of the "rough sport" comments by the oiler fans piping up in here in defense of this crap.

Love Marincin, but that was definitely a dirty hit. No way to defend that play. Having said that I expected it to be a lot worse than it actually was.

Yeah that was pretty dirty. Not going to argue that.

I'd give him at least the last two games of the round robin. Wish the the Camera angle showed whether he sped up before the elbow. A coasting drive-by elbow vs a speeding up drive by elbow will probably will factor into his suspension.

Unfortunate thing is from what I'm seeing is that by Zucker seeing him last second it probably ended up making it worse than it was going to be, basically dodges his face right into the elbow not expecting it, as he shouldn't.

Yeah cheapshots are genrally premeditated, you don't try and hurt a guy for no reason generally.

alright...you know how some NHLrs aren't even bothering to play in international play anymore. might something like this cause NHL clubs to put pressure on their prospects not to play? Not sure how much impact the would have as it's been a fantastic tourney but I'd hate to see it diluted if suddenly everyone is worried about "well, we suck at hockey so lets injure them" teams.

So let me get this straight. Your preferred response to a clean hit is a deliberate headshot away from the play? You'd rather see a guy get put on a stretcher from the result of a dirty headshot rather than a guy actually going out and catching someone that HAS the puck at center ice or in the boards?

If that's the case, you shouldn't be allowed anywhere near the game.

An absolutely stunning display. You need help.

What I was getting at was...If Zucker would've made (last year's) hit earlier in the game, like in the first period, then the elbow could've been understood (still not condoned, though), and maybe the Slovak gets a game or so. However, if it was in retaliation for last year's hit alone, then it makes it that much worse, being over year of premeditation, and he should get the book thrown at him.

I don't think you guys realize, Zucker got his arms up really high on that hit. Thats why the slovaks didn't like it and remembered it. You can say it's clean but it was borderline and it's obviously what drew this retaliation. He'll get suspended, stop crying about it. Hopefully Zucker is okay, that type of elbow at high speed can be pretty dangerous though, wouldn't doubt that he got concussed.

Dirty hit, I wonder if it's the end of his tourney? I understand why he did, frustration over getting blown out and the American's running around a bit, that said, there's no excuse for that, very dirty play.

Meanwhile, Slovakia will face Switzerland in a very important game on Dec. 30 -- one which might decide if Slovakia is going to play in relegation round or not. With 5 D-Mens. And with their best two already out.

McKenzie just said that discipline expected to come down in the next half hour on the 2 hits on D'amigo and Zucker.

Slovakia is getting spanked, Marincin doesn't like it. He responds with a harsh play.

Old school hockey.

As an Oilers fan, it's nice to have someone who doesn't take **** from other teams. We've been taking it up the butt physically for the last 5 seasons.

It's still a dirty play, and I wouldn't be surprised if he's gone for the rest of the tourney.

Meh. Dirty yes, but I've seen way worse. People in this thread are making it out to be the worst hockey play of all time. This was no Bertuzzi people. And yeah, I'm sure some of the rationale behind it was payback for that blindside hit that Zucker pulled last year.

I do think it's hilarious that an Avery supporter is so ******** by this though.

Not nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be from the way people were talking. He'll get suspended though that is for sure.
