Your ankle's bugging you a little Ryan? You're not playing. I levy the same criticism Horcoff's way. If you miss practice, you're not playing the next game. Period.

It doesn't matter how many top three picks we get because this injury cloud keeps hovering over this organization. Is it all bad luck? I seriously doubt it.
i knew this was coming

just saying, injuries are part of hockey. There are tons of players in the NHL playing through injury right now. They should tell Tom Gilbert to stop playing too right now b/c hes injured.

The surgery he had in this summer was his 2nd surgery.

Months?

I feel a long losing streak coming on. Injuries happen, but the Oilers haven't had the depth to absorb injury losses in years.

NYI look like they are playing better these days. Lets hope NJ picks it up because the Oilers probably will go in freefall mode for the next few weeks, and hopefully those 2 teams get some seperation so the Oilers can continue to stockpile potentially elite talent in the draft.

Hey, I was all for Gilbert taking the game off last night but hey, gotta keep the iron man streak going, right?

Our top pairing will be Struds and Vandy. Season is going exactly as planned, I hope Tambi starts looking for a nice condo for Couturier.

Hey, he and Cogliano are anomalies in the Oilers organization in that they've remained relatively healthy. It's something that Gibby can be proud of.

In other Oilers news (Swedish posters will love this) according to Tencer, Omark will be a healthy scratch for the Colorado game. He's heeeeadin' back to Oklahoooooma.

Brule is taking his place. Yeah, I can't say that I'm excited about that either.

Anyway, in an attempt to be the antithesis to all the negativity, I hope that Petry finds his way quickly and plays over his head.

So what... 3 of the past 4 seasons the Oilers lose one of their top 1/2 player to a season ending injury midway through?

This year was Whitney, on pace for career year.
Last year Hemsky, on pace for career year.
In 07-8 Horcoff, on pace for career year.

Would be an absolutely brutal loss to try and recover from. The Oilers had the worst defense in the league with Whitney playing Norris caliber hockey.

Without him... not gonna be pretty. Hopefully Petry can step up and provide some offense. We're gonna need it.

Perfect timing since Kadri went back today (to the Marlies)

That's about four weeks overdue. At least Omark has an NHL goal.

Now I'm not normally one for picking up waiver guys on a whim. But Canucks waived Parent again today. I wonder if the Oilers take a look.

Can he really be worse than Strudwick?

James, you mean?

That trade doesn't make a lick of sense for the Islanders. I get that they're trying to be as bad as possible but they were bad with Wisniewski. Maybe Snow started freaking out when the Islanders were in the midst of their little winning streak. Oh noes! We gots to lose games!

Why? What benefit would a trade make at this point? You do realize this thread is about losing our best defenseman/player for "months", and as so many have predicted, should end any winning this season.

No one is picking up the crap we have available unless we finally ship Hemsky out for a top defenseman...or an actual centre.

Grab him. He's been a disappointment, but I've always burned a candle for him since the WJC when he was so dominant.

I would make a move to add someone. I don't want to see a horror show for the remaining 45 games. Honestly, it's a big psychological hit to suck this badly for this long.

Parent, sure.

Petry belongs in the AHL working on his game. OKC also needs to make the playoffs.

The funny/sad thing about that (depending on how you look at it) is Smid always seems be like a hair away from seriously injuring himself to boot. That may just be a matter of time.

Haha... ha.

As Spawn pointed out, the Oilers should at least put a waiver claim on Parent. There's absolutely nothing to be gained from another death march. NOTHING. So the Oilers luck out and draft the oh so elusive "first line" centre that they've been missing in Couturier. What then?

I for one don't want to see the Oilers turn into Islanders West hopelessly gunning for top picks year after year after year in the hopes that the team somehow gets better. This was the year in which the culture of the club had to change even if they grabbed another top five lottery pick and right now I'm dreading 09/10 redux.

Yes, thanks for the correction.

But apparently the going rate for defenseman (not great ones either) is a 2nd rounder and a conditional 5th! The Oilers are rebuilding, no need to trade draft picks.
