It’s one of those things where we’ve got to get back on track here. The last couple games, we haven’t played a full 60 and there have been lapses in our compete level, which can’t happen. Mistakes are going to happen in a hockey game. That’s what hockey is all about, but you can’t have a lack of compete level. There’s no way you’re going to win if you’re not working and competing. In the last two games, we’ve had spurts where we haven’t done that, and that’s not acceptable."

So we can’t let a slide happen, and we’ve got to really focus. We’ve got good teams coming in. We’ve been playing pretty good at home, so we’ve just got to refocus. It goes to basics. We’ve got to do the little things well. Sometimes we try to do too much, and one guy is trying to do the other guy’s job, and that’s when breakdowns happen. We have to have more trust, especially in our own zone. The whole team, we know what we have to do. We’ve done it, pretty much, for the last three years, so we’ve just to refocus a little bit and just get back to basics. We’ve got to be stronger along the boards, win the battles and be stronger on the puck. Sometimes we give them, in our zone, too much space, and they start cycling and we’re just kind of running around. So we’ve got to close down harder, play harder and just go back to basics. We know how we have to play."

We’ve got to be more disciplined against a team like that. We’ve just got to be better from everybody. We’ve got to be more disciplined. We can’t be in the box the way we were. They’re a good team and they’re going to score goals if you give them opportunities and tonight we did that. Obviously the locker-room mood is down, you can’t feel sorry for yourself though. We’ve just got to go back at it. We’ve got a lot of games coming up here at home and we’ve got to get ready for that. We’ve got to have a good homestand here, to turn this thing around and hopefully put it back where it was. It’s defensive lapses, but over the last 120 minutes we’re just not playing well. That’s something that needs to change right away. If we want to win games, we can’t give up six and seven (goals) on back-to-back nights and expect to win any games."

Sure, fatigue plays a factor, there are tough parts of the schedule, but you’ve got to suck it up. Every single team in this league is going to go through that, at one point or another. It’s up to us to suck it up and, most importantly, to play better. We’re certainly not tightening up like we should be, and like we have all season. Tonight, I thought we were playing fine in the first period. The only two chances I think they got, the whole period, they buried them. That’s the way it goes sometimes. You try to shake it off, but certainly we’re going to need some work in that department."

We’ve got practice time. We’re a young hockey club. When you’re on the road and you’re traveling, with late nights, it’s not an excuse, it’s just part of the schedule. That’s the way it is in the NHL. You’re not going to get the quality work in, to keep the habits in place. Now we’re back. We have about two weeks of being around here and playing some games, but what’s important is getting on the ice and practicing and reviewing and going through the fundamentals of the game."

LET'S GO KINGS !!!

- Next HOME Game -

NOTE : Regarding LARGE SIZE IMAGES / YELLOW RE-SIZE IMAGE BARS ABOVE PICS, let me offer up one nice little suggestion ...
This will get rid of those pesky yellow resize bars over the top of some larger pictures ... as they annoy the hell out of me and maybe they do you also ?
- Go into/click on your "USER CP" {control Panel} up top left in the red bars
- on the left under 'Settings & Options' click on "Edit Options"
- scroll down to 'Thread Display Options', and then 'Please Select the Resize Mode'
- click on the 'Drop Down List Box' over on the Right of 'Please Select the Resize Mode'
- select it to "KEEP ORIGINAL SIZE"
- SAVE your selections !
There ... now don't that look MUCH BETTER

Wow, that reminds me of that stat with Avery and the Rangers. It's crazy that 1 player can mean so much to a team . . .

Not that much really. When he is in the lineup he brings a solid, veteran presence and tends to lead the back end out of panicky situations. The younger guys besides Scuds really miss him taking care of things and getting the puck out or carrying it out when things gets shaky in our own zone.

I just wish he was healthy more often.

Indeed. But even if he was in the lineup for the last two games, the Kings still would have lost both, and they still would of lost the majority of games during the 6 game losing streak even with him.

Devils fan here. Just to give you guys a heads up, Zubrus is in the lineup tonight. Doesn't exactly tie in with Eklund's trade rumor.

I can't believe that we, the Los Angeles Kings who gave In and Out a chance haven't gone to the World Famous Oki Dog.

Its sort of sad really.

Thanks apice3.

Interesting stuff. With Zubrus in the line up it makes me wonder who else could have been part of the rumored deal. I have heard so many different names now I am not certain any more.

Good luck apice3 and good luck Kings.

... I remember that the Kings' record last season with Teddy Purcell in the lineup was far better than their record without him. The Kings' record with Oscar Moller in the lineup was the best of any Kings player.

I didn't remember many tying any significance to it back then. It's more luck and coincidence than anything.

I didn't remember many tying any significance to it back then. It's more luck and coincidence than anything.
Far better? The Kings would have won a wopping 4.5 more games if Purcell played every game (based on the winning percentage). Only 6 more games if Moller played in all of them.

Right now the Kings are 17 games better with Mitchell based on an 82 game schedule.

0.733 vs. .523 is vastly different than the players you mentioned. Mitchell plays 20+ minutes per game in all situations, he has a mich bigger impact on the game than Purcell or Moller ever do.

I think most would agree that having a healthy Mitchell in the lineup makes the Kings a better team and the record shows that.
