The Spectrum: Demolition and related discussion

I'm going for sure, calling dibs now on the Holmgren-Cashman gate, though carrying that stuff onto the L will be fun

Anyone else going?

Quote:
Saturday morning, Philadelphia fans will get one last chance to visit the Spectrum – by looting it for anything they can carry.

From 9 a.m. to noon, Comcast-Spectacor is holding a “If You Can Carry It, You Can Keep It” event in which fans can pay $25 to get into the Spectrum and walk away with anything they can carry out of the building.

It has the potential to be dangerous like the old “Disco Demolition Night,” but it admission includes a commemorative Spectrum crystal and a chance to go on the arena floor and take home a souvenir.

The items expected to be available include “Spectrum folding chairs, used televisions, some office furniture, couches, computer equipment, and other collectibles.”

Carts will not be allowed, nor will fans be able to re-enter the arena. “Items are first-come, first-served. Patrons will be allowed to take as much as they can carry (up to four chairs per person)” according to the news release.

Spectrum's last call

As the Spectrum nears a date with the wrecking ball, Comcast-Spectacor and Cordish Company will begin enclosing the Spectrum site with protective fencing on Monday. It is not expected to affect any parking in the area of the Wells Fargo Center nor interfere with any ingress or egress at the facility either.

"We will begin the demolition process by enclosing the Spectrum with protective fencing on Monday," said Comcast-Spectacor president Peter Luukko.

"The demolition of the arena will commence from the inside as early as Monday or Tuesday. We expect to be working on the exterior by the third week in November."

In addition, Comcast-Spectacor is allowing fans one-last opportunity to go inside the Spectrum on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon for an "If You Can Carry It, You Can Keep It" event. Admission is $25.

I may head down there if, for nothing else, to step foot in the Spectrum one last time.

They're getting paid to have people help demolish the spectrum, which they're already doing.

That's honestly genius.

Probably nothing but junk. Pay $25 to come look at all the junk that is still left in this almost vacant building.

LOL. Is it like the Vet which had all those cats running around inside? Cause $25 bucks for a cat is a steal!

Some folding chairs will go along with my spectrum seats quite nicely, though i would really like a section of boards & glass.

I may head down for a folding chair or 2. Unfortunately the boards and glass are gone. When I went down to pick my folding chairs up I spoke with the person in charge, Scheinfeld, and he assured me that sections of boards would be made available for sale but wasn't sure when. He asked me to follow up with an email every 2 weeks or so. I did as he asked and about a month later he said that the boards were removed for an event (Snider's birthday bash) and wasn't sure where there were??? Of course a month or so later they are sellling small pieces of boards on plaques.

I was pretty bummed as I had some elaborate plans for the seats, boards and other items that I hoped to pick up.

Interesting that there is no mention of this on rememberthespectrum.com or the Flyers website.
