Intangibles, or; How Jonathan Toews just may save the game of hockey

How Jonathan Toews just may save the game of hockey

As of late, there has been a lot of discussion, especially among those here at HFBoards about Jonathan Toews, and whether or not he is a top three center in the NHL.

Let me tell you right now: He is.

He's not only a top three center in the league, he is hands down the best center in the league. Not only is he the best center, he's the best player, and he's here to save the game of Hockey. And he's not doing it for himself, he's doing it for me, for you, for fans everywhere. He's just that kind of guy. You ever look into his eyes? I mean, really look into his eyes? If you did, you would know this already, and I wouldn't have to spell it out for you. Go on, have a little looksie:

Sidney Crosby may have "the goal" but Jonathan Toews has "Tournament MVP" which is much more important in the grand scheme of things.

Stats are sometimes looked upon too much in the game of hockey. If the man isn't scoring fifty goals a year, he's not that great. While it's true Toews has not yet eclipsed, nor touched the fifty goal mark, the fact is is that he will. It's just a matter of time.

Crosby and Ovechikin may score fifty or sixty goals a season, but they don't have what Toews has in spades. Say it with me : Intangibles.

Now here come the chorus of pre-pubescent Canuck fans looking for any reason and venue to shove Ryan Kesler down our throats, and force the view upon the suspecting reader that Kesler is in fact better than Toews.

"Just contrast and compare their point totals over the last 2.5 seasons," is one of the arguments throw around.

Why 2.5 seasons though? What is the significance of 2.5 seasons? Why not three seasons?

I'll tell you why. The reason Canuck fans want to look at only the past 2.5 seasons when comparing numbers with Toews, is because Ryan Kesler sucked quite a bit before 2.5 seasons ago. He couldn't score on a line with the Sedins. What did Kesler ever win? Besides the first round of the playoffs? Let me tell you: Not much.

On the other hand what has Toews won?

I'm not even going to bother arguing my point, because my point has been proven. Anyone outside of British Columbia knows this anyway.

So back to the main point: Why is Jonathan Toews going to save hockey again?

INTANGIBLES!
INTANGIBLES!
INTANGIBLES!

He has what no one else in the league has. Does Crosby have intangibles? No, he doesn't. Crosby shows up at the end of the day, puts in a goal and takes the glory for all the hard working, better forwards, like Jonathan Toews, who was Olympic Men's Hockey MVP. Crosby disappeared for the entire tournament, only to score a goal that should have been scored by Jonathan Toews.

Jonathan Toews also came into the league, captained a miserable franchise and lead them to the glory land in not too long of a time. Any team in the league would trade any player on their roster for a guy like Toews. It's fact. Don't argue with me! I'm not listening!

I think I've made my argument clear. Toews is the best player in the world, better than Lemieux, better than Gretzky, and better than Orr. And you know why?

INTANGIBLES!

SAY IT WITH ME PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

INTANGIBLES!

THAT'S IT. ONE MORE TIME. COME ON SAY IT:

INTANGIBLES.

Intangibles.

Can Toews save the game of hockey as we know it? I'll take no doubt.

Drury has intangibles, I wonder if Chicago will do a straight up Drury for Toews trade?

Please read the post. Anyone would trade anyone on their roster for Toews, but Chicago wouldn't trade him for anyone.

I'm not saying he's a top 10. I'm saying he's going to save the game of hockey as we know it. And I've laid out my argument in the initial post of this thread, which i think would do you well to read over, at least twice.

Just continue to evaluate players by useless point total stats.

Some of us are smarter than that.

Sorry, I don't see Toews making me curse from carrying his team to victory like Crosby does.

Toews will never be better than Crosby, MSL, or Ovechkin.
