Devils vs Rangers at the new Giant stadium. Book it.
They won't do a "subway series" Winter Classic. Just having two New York teams is a recipe for a ratings disaster. NBC or whoever gets the NHL's TV rights for 2012 on is going to have a big say in this.
St. Louis is definitely a live possibility. Busch Stadium, anyone?

I think it's about time that Minnesota got a Winter Classic myself. Minnesota and St. Louis and the new Twins stadium perhaps?
That would be a ratings disaster. Need at least one big media market playing if not two.
I can't see how the Rangers aren't at least the visiting team next year. They have to get the two teams who would draw the most ratings in order to make that new TV deal look more attractive to potential bidders.
My guess is Rangers v. ________ at new Giants Stadium. Isles suck, so that's a no go. I still think Devils could be a possibility assuming Brodeur is playing, Parise's back, etc. But that creates a home/away team issue.

St. Louis is a decent size, but I see where you're coming from.
Could easily make the Rangers the visitors, though I get the sense that NYC is going to want to be the host the first time they do it.
Perhaps they bring the Kings out to Minnesota as the visitors. #2 media market in the US right there.
Seems pretty clear since they've used the Penguins twice they'll do whatever gets ratings. First one is new and a gimme, plus Crosby. Second is at Wrigley between two big fan bases, thirds the same but with Fenway. This had Ovie and Crosby. My guess is they'll do whatever appeals to a wide fanbase.
If they ever could do it in a warm climate facility like Dodger Stadium, that would be wild, and help grow the game in the southern part of the country, where population is obviously most lacking.
But if that is the case, how much diversity is there for the future of the classic. Certainly they can't keep re-running teams, and if they use only American teams to get American ratings, then every year the game is hinged upon using northern teams, of which only a handful are appealing.
My guess is Lightning at Rangers at new Giants Stadium. Stamkos, big NY market, new stadium. boom.
What aboout Dallas at Minny? Target field is brand new and awesome! get that old north stars vs the wild (Modano on the wild? lol)
I like the Rangers idea but yankee stadium is not gonna be an option, so how about Rangers Devils(they cant be this horrible forever) at the new Medowlands?
Colorado at Mile high stadium would be another cool one not really sure who they could play considering Detroit already had one and im not for giving out double dishes like the pens got. Colorado v San Jose? both teams are young and have plenty of potential .
Its too bad they wont put a canadian team in the mix I would love to see the Bz play the habs in one not next year of course but eventually

the next one will (should) be in the west, as the east has had the last two. st louis would be OK, but they run the same rain risk as pittsburgh i'd imagine. colorado would be great, they got great young talent, they are a good team, and one of their venues would be amazing with the Rockies in the backrround. MN would be nice, but wait until they're a little better. detroit will host one, it's only a matter of time.
personally, i'd like to see Phoenix vs Colorado. but i think that may have more canadian appeal. the kings would be a good fit for a visitor, as they have been around for almost 50 years and have a ton of talent, plus it's a huge market. but my gut tells me that colorado will host next year. no inside info, just the gut.

Starting 2012 there will be a run of about 4 years in a row where Jan 2 will be a weekday. We just saw the potential for inclement weather wiping out the event. If the game is cancelled Sun-Thur, the NHL will lose the event. They should have two WC on NYD in two separate parts of the country. One Eastern and say one Mid-West.

What i think they should do is have the Heritage Classic and Winter Classic on the same day. WC at 1pm, HC at 8pm and make those the only two games of the day, both nationally televised on either NBC or ABC or w/e
As a habs fan, I will say I don't think the habs should be part of another one. Please god, don't make pittsburg part of another one too soon either. I'd really like to see an underrated market like minnesota get a chance.
