The NHL is still building this event up and its all about star power, old rivalries and location.

Don't expect Minnesota or any team that doesn't have star power behind it in the classic. Boston has no superstars but did have Fenway and the old Philly/Boston rivalry.

I'm thinking New York next year, probably the new Giants stadium since Yankee Stadium is out. Probably Rags vs. Caps.

NYI vs NYR at the new Giants Stadium
DET vs COL at Mile High Invesco
ANA vs LAK at Dodgers Stadium

If CDN teams can be included[NBC]..

MTL vs TOR in Olympic Stadium or Skydome
TOR vs VAN in BC Place
OTT vs WSH at FedEX Field[Capital War.. war of 2012[1812]]

There is just no way the NHL is going to put a team that is having as bad of a season as New Jersey is in the Winter Classic.

Rangers VS Kings
Sharks VS Red Wings
Black Hawks VS Rangers
Avs Vs Rangers
Sharks VS Rangers
Red Wings VS Rangers

I like all of those games and I have a feeling that the Rangers will be in the game next year, it just makes sense.

Would love Dallas @ Minnesota in the Twins new ballpark, but don't the NHL would see the value in doing it.

Detroit @ Colorado would be great to see, would Colorado wear Nordiques jerseys?

i'd personally love to see a little east/west action, so get the kings in there, rangers/kings would make sense, 2 biggest markets, have it at la memorial coliseum, huge amount of people there, idk if the casual fan would be interested though

Grass roots is the way to grow the game! Outdoor rinks, where kids learn to play and have fun. If there is a lack of ability to have outdoor rinks, then it will not grow how the NHL envisions. Watching hockey is great, but playing it as a kid is how you attract long-term fans. The NHL is trying to speed up the process, which is pathetic!

Personally I'd rather head to my local outdoor rink and watch kids play for the love of the game than watch Capitalists profit of a gimmick!

I'm sure that Detroit will get a game sooner or later. And probably sooner. Since the city is right on the Canadian border, they would probably want the largest stadium possible, because a lot of people from both countries will want to be there.

Detroit hosting St. Louis would be a good one. Those teams used to have a great rivalry.

Montreal @ LA = "Gretzky's revenge"

Does anyone know how long it takes to tear down the rink, and to prepare the field for an actual football game?

People keep suggesting that they use NFL fields, but with the league playing regular season games until late December/early January & with the possibility of post-season play at those fields, I'm not sure how convenient it is to use NFL stadiums full time. I know Pittsburgh played their last home game early in the week (Thursday, the 23rd) and then were scheduled for a road game for the last week, so the regular season stuff can be arranged with the NFL.

But what if Pittsburgh had a home game this weekend? Could they have removed the rink & prepped the field in a single week?

Note: this is a legit question, not an attempt at "ha ha, those that want it at a football stadium are wrong!" Scout's honor.

I think to build it I heard it could be as little as a week, so my guess is taking down is at most half that.

Red Wings vs. Avalanche at Invesco should happen at some point, but the NHL needs to make sure they're in a cold, cold environment next year to avoid another meltdown like this year. Denver isn't a sure thing to be cold on Jan. 1.

I have no doubt whoever runs the stadium in Pittsburgh garaunteed the NFL that the rink could be gone in time for a playoff game this weekend. They absoltely had to make the schedule and plans with the assumption the rink would be dismantled by Friday if not earlier.

Is this Legands classic they keep advertising on NHL network a live game on Wednesday or something that has already been played?

Yeah, I think Detroit deserves one, sooner or later. Heck, they staged the Frozen Four right next door at Ford Field(not to mention the fact that the Hockeytown Cafe and Cheli's bar are located next to Comerica rather than the Joe).

TOTAL BS if it happens.

Flyers edge Wild as Winter Classic hosts
According to a report, Philadelphia's Lincoln Financial Field has the inside track on landing the 2012 Winter Classic. The NHL "prefers the NFL stadium model compared to the baseball stadium because there's more seating (and) better line sights." The Colorado Avalanche also are "interested and have a shot" at hosting the game. The Minnesota Wild repeatedly have expressed their desire to host the game, but the league does not "see the Wild as a very sexy team to have in the game."

Rangers vs Avalanche
Kings vs Avalanche..
I think Colorado has a great young team that the NHL can use to promote the game. NYR because of it's huge media market.
