The Kostitsyn Thread - What will happen to him?

Kostitsyn plays on the top line with Plekanec and Cammalleri. When hings are good he plays like a top 2 line winger on a solid line. When things are bad he is in the coach's dog house. He regularly gets benched for

-stupid penalties
-inferior effort
-does the coach just not like him?

After this season he is a RFA with one year remaining until his UFA years. You have to think He is not a "Martin player". Those players consistantly get a free cab ride to the airport (Dags, O'byrne, Lapierre, Latendresse, etc...)

Habs can use some more scoring, including when Kostitsyn is nailed to the bench.

What will happen? will Gauthier:

-keep him and lock him up long term?
-keep him until this summer and decide then?
-trade him for an equivalent forward?
-trade him for stuff and trade stuff to get a forward at the deadline (multiple trades)

Not sure but i can almost guarantee he won't be re-signed. So far PG has made moves that makes sense to me. So with that said, i think that he'll try to move AK.

Yes, our team isn't soft enough yet. We need to trade our leader in hits.

He's an RFA in July. He'll be re-signed.

I wouldn't trade Andrei Kostitsyn. He's our only big, physical, true Top 6 forward. Goal scorers are inherently streaky, but when AKost is ON, he's deadly. An offensively starved team would not be looking to trade AKost anytime soon. There aren't many goal-scorers who aren't streaky. If we intend to get another Top 6 scorer for AKost, it's likely that he would be equally streaky and frustrating. So I'd keep around just because he's something we don't have a whole lot of right now.

Keep him, re-evaluate in the summer, most likely re-sign him for 2-3 years

I think they'll sign him to a one year contract in the summer and if he doesn't become more consistent he'll be gone by the end of next season.

I definitely wont offer him a long term deal. You need a more consistent top 6 option than him in the big picture.

He'll be traded to an equivalent forward, which is an inconsistent player with good potential in hope that he fits in well.

Kostitsyn should be next to leave as he's now the leader in hits on the team. Martin doesn't like that.

I say re-sign him. It's always possible to trade him, People accuse him of sleepwalking but he worls well with Plekanec and gets hits and his shots on goal every game.

He's very inconsistent but at least, he doesn't cost the team when he is off his game now. So let's wait until he finds his game back.

He still leads in hits, +/- and doesn't take bad penalty.

When he struggles, i have no problem to see him on the third line with Eller or DD. That's the beauty of 3 offensive centers/lines.

Keep him, he has lots of talent and its not like Cammalleri is doing better than him. He will definitely help the Habs.

Rather just keep him around. Not going to get value for him.

He is RFA, our third best scorer and the leader for +/-.

He ain't a consistent player but when his centre is own fire so he is.

Nothing will happen to Andrei. The organisation will keep him because nobody will offer anything near the value of a 1st rounder player. Even if he sucks. Which he is.

He's the kind of players good GMs steal from bad GMs: an effective top-6 forward on a not-too-onerous contract who can play tough minutes, face against opposing top lines, and get you some production 5-on-5, but who gets routinely scapegoated (by his own coach, even), and carries a reputation for deficient work ethic.

There's much opportunity for the Habs to get ripped off in any transaction involving AK46.

Aren't you the guy that called Andrei uni-dimensional that doesn't hit?

Explain how hes worse than AK? By having more goals? Or by having a 30 goal season? Not to mention he will probably be at 4m next yr. Thing is u dont win in the playoffs with a guy like AK. Id take my chances on Penner in the playoffs.

Maybe the deadline would be a good time to move him. He's just too inconsistant. He's like a Kovalev disappearing too often. The Habs need another player or two that can put the puck in the net and/or come to play most every night. Habs need to get rid of the lazy type players.
