Make sure your samples match what's happening for the Sharks--players that would not ordinarily be playing in the NHL, in close games, against better teams.

I'll keep an eye out and narrow it down to MASH unit teams as samples to make sure.

What got me going was last year's Hawks series where the minute distribution between the two teams was overwhelmingly different. The Sharks aren't fast and facing a fresher (minute distribution) skating team highlights that issue. It can be a frying pan/fire type of issue.

In my opinion DW's biggest fault is overpaying for top line talent leaving very little in the way of funds for the bottom two lines, and the players being plugged into those bottom line roles simply don't have the talent to compete night in and night out. Now add injuries to the mix and you're left with guys that do not have NHL level talent (be it " not yet" or "never will").

It shouldn't be shocking that guys without NHL level talent don't get minutes in close games.

So essentially what you're saying is that he fit right into the Sharks' system!

Yeah, and as a coach McLellan can only do so much in trying to spread out his talent to create some type of depth, which he did try at the start of the season, but failed to click. Not having a replacement for Malhotra is really starting to show (and when I say replacement, I mean anyone who's been given consistent playing time in the league, not the Woostah shuttle).

I believe Couture is considered to be Malhotra's replacement. And a good one at that.

Actually looking like a replacement for Pavs with Pavs taking Manny's spot.

Right now I suppose we can pencil in Marleau as a replacement for Manny since Patty is starting on the third line?

Manny wasn't a top 6 player. With the Pavs injury its a little hard to say who is really replacing who since there are different skill sets involved. You also have to throw Seto into the mix as well.

Once Pavs is back its going to be interesting to see what happens. Marleau, JT, Clowe, Seto, Pavs, Heater, Cooter. That's 7 top six players. My guess is we see Seto back with Mitchell and McGinn, making Mitchell the replacement for Manny when that happens.

Right now, based on effort, it should be:

Clowe-Couture-Nichol
Mashinter-Thornton-Ferriero
McGinn-Desjardins-Mayers
Heatley-Marleau-Setoguchi

This actually looks like a pretty good lineup.

Called back up
http://www.telegram.com/article/2011...05/1009/SPORTS
Andrew Desjardins almost dressed, as he was returned from San Jose and checked into the DCU Center yesterday afternoon to make the bus ride here.

Just before the team was scheduled to depart, however, Desjardins was told to head to Phoenix, where San Jose will be playing this afternoon.

Dammit Ferriero... probably injured his hand hitting that guy in a skull so many times. You're supposed to punch his face!

Or that gnarly slash he took that drew the penalty he even followed it up with a shot and had the guys stick tangled up in his buisness
