Rangers Prospect Poll: #11 RUN-OFF!

Roman Horak and Pavel Valentenko came in tied in the 11th round. Time to break the tie.

A good argument can be made for either. Went with Horak because he's having a tremendous season in the WHL. If he played the full 72 games, he'd get close to 100 points. Even with a few missed games, he'll still get at least 90 points. Not that there's anything wrong with Valentenko, I really like him too.

Vtank, Horak never plays a game in the NHL...he had a disappointing WJC.

He also had a great Traverse. A disappointing or a great single tournament does not make a player.

No, he's still 19 years old. Born May 21, 1991.

Oh my sweet FSM, you guys act like the WJC is the end-all be-all determinant of a player's future.

Horak and it's not close.

Can't say that the WJC doesn't concern me at all, but if he had a Fasth-like tournament, he would not have been in the second-tier, he'd have been fighting for a top 5-6 spot.

If you are in the second tier, something is not perfect. A perfect prospect, someone who dominates juniors/college and WJC, and has NHL experience, would be #1, a la Stepan.

By the time you get to #11, you have to make allowances for certain things.

I don't get all the love for Valentenko. He has a big shot. Big whoop. He seemed more concerned with shooting the puck that playing defense.

Definitely Horak.

Well prior to last year, I thought Valentenko was criminally underrated. Now this year he is becoming criminally overrated.

Some people may have the wrong read of the kind of player Valentenko is. He's got a big shot but he's never been a big point producer. He's more a stay at home physical d-man--something akin to a Volchenkov type. Whether he becomes close or as good as Volchenkov is a wait and see but he should become a solid NHL defenseman anyway. Expectations for him being an offensive d-man are not and never really have been in the cards.

yeah, even though I voted for him, I don't get the hype around the V-tank. He only projects as an undersized third-pairing physical guy, and he still needs work on his game.

Undersized? This is not basketball and at 220 pounds Valentenko is plenty sized IMHO.

I don't see an NHL spot on the Rangers for Valentenko.

He's a left-handed shot.

So are: Staal, Del Zotto, and McDonagh.

All three of them are farther up the totem poll.

The only way to break in is on the right side, and unfortunately for him...

Girardi, Sauer, and soon McIlrath are right-handed, and further up the totem poll.

I just don't see a future with the Rangers for Valentenko. His highest value to the Rangers would be as a trade chip.

I don't care about stats but Horak did not look like a player capable of producing at the NHL level at the WJC.

If Tank became Volchenkov I'd be happy. We need a heavy hitting Dman... havent had one since Kaspar, although, as we know, Kaspar wasnt the most positionally sound...

BUT, I went ahead and took Horak.

I guess you can just call it a tie, and then move on to #13.

Horak got a lot of good reviews at Travers City and a lot of praise from the coaching staff during camp. Since then he has gone on to perform exceedingly well for Chilliwack. I did not see him play at the WJC, but I did read reports that a) the Czech team was dreadful and b) he was among the best players on it, but was getting almost no help.

I really like VTank for his nasty play around the crease, but he slots after both Horak and Fasth for me.
