Kind of a random thought, but Leighton's been put on waivers from Philadelphia to be assigned to the minors to get some playing time, do you think Ottawa should pick him up?

Yes.

We should also go after Rolston. Both great ideas.

Another career back-up goalie to solve our goaltending woes? Sure, why not.

I looked at the UFA goalies next summer and to be honest, there's not too many options out there after Vokoun and Bryz. With them both being in their prime, would you want to come to Ottawa playing for a re-building/re-tooling team? Probably not.

Yes, because goaltending is our only issue.

Unless he can be converted to a first line forward, pass.

No.

He isn't much of an upgrade, if an upgrade at all.

Yeeeeah NO THANKS!

Leighton may be a slight upgrade to Elliott but that's really not saying much at all!

Right... pick up a goalie from the only other team with possibly a worse reputation for goaltenders than us (at least we briefly had Hasek... though now they've got Bobrovsky).

He's only a temporary solution, I'd rather ride Elliott and Leclaire than have another backup goalie.

No.

We already have two goalies that can't hold down the #1 spot. Why add a third?

I like Budaj in Colorado who is young & would likely be cheaper & at times plays very well. He could be a stop gap measure until Lehner is ready.

A point to consider, if Ottawa were to pick up Leighton, could they then place Leclaire on waivers & send his salary to the minors to save some cap space & make a trade a little easier? They might also want to wait to see if Philly calls him back up on re-entry waivers & pick him up then at half the salary. I think it's pretty clear Ottawa won't be resigning Leclaire so why not?

Based only on having observed Leighton, Elliot and Leclaire extensively in the AHL, Leighton is the best of the three.

If we can get Leighton on re-entry waivers, forcing the Flyers to eat half his salary, then I say go for it. At that time, you put Leclaire on waivers, and bury him in AHL if you have to. I am under no illusions about Leighton - there's a reason he has been on waivers before - but he might help us stop the bleeding for at least a while. It is obvious that Leclaire isn't coming back, and that Elliott is what he is - a decent backup who struggles as a long term starter. Something has to be done to shake up the goaltending situation, if only to give the players some confidence. Performances like the one Elliott turned in Saturday night are soul destroying for teams playing with little confidence to begin with.

I think after DP's apparent injury that NYI will claim him.

In my opinion why the **** not claim him? What we have isn't working, let's start plugging in new pieces to the puzzle.
