i've read that there is a chance that if he is unconditional waivers we can release him from his contract

Well that's a shame; Kerr always talks JD Watt up on the radio, but maybe Feaster is trying to rid the farm system of players who's ceiling stops right above the wall outlet.

If he's getting released (and I can't see why he wouldn't) it would tell me that a deal is in the works, as the Flames need room to add a contract.

Or that he's requested a trade, as was pointed out in the main thread...

Could be that Watt was offered a deal overseas for more money.

RT@dankinvigsports: Playfair on Watt: He came in and said he wanted to get traded, so I said OK, good. Tell your agent to deal with Calgary.

lol @ Playfairs reaction, kinda sucks, thought maybe he would become an effective tough guy/pest, but he also looked like he played at a beer league level. Don't know if they'll find a taker

Man where was this Playfair when he coached in Calgary? I like this guy! Does anyone have a Youtube video of his behind the bench tirade?

Beer League?

Honestly, I think we will try to trade him for someones crap or we will just bench him and let him stew.

As per the Fan 960, Watt's contract has been terminated, effective immediately.

I wasn't aware that it was an option. I thought the CBA protected all players from contract termination, not just NHL'ers?

So a guy who is a career AHLer chooses to end his professional career. Maybe with Stone/Meyer sent down he was getting benched. Well, that's one less contract then the max for the Flames. Looks like career suicide from my perspective. Hope he knows a trade or has something lined up, lol.

I think that's the point. He may have looked at the Flames and realized that he's never going to make it to the big leagues. A lifetime of riding a bus in the minors or bouncing around random teams in Europe probably lost it's luster, so he's decided to move on.

i think its because he is on an ELC... i may be wrong, but thats what i understand about the situation... i think teams usually let guys they no long want play out their ELC as a courtesy... but with Watt demanding a trade he lost the respect of the organization

He is on record as saying "I just didn't see my career going anywhere playing for Jim Playfair."

Now there's a guy who's never going to be successful in life.
