This is not the big move, it's one of only two options we had: trade or waive. The question becomes do they assign him to Springfield, loan to another AHL team or somewhere else. I'm not shocked by this move. Something is still up.

trading Guenin makes sense of freeing a D spot in Springfield so Commodore can play while we attempt to trade him...

Who is seriously going to Claim him??? Well, Marchant was put on waivers because he refused to waive his NTC and he was basically part of the Fedorov deal.... right?

That said, if Commodore was of any suspected trades that were already discussed, this seems to debunk it, for now at least....

Getting rid of him is not addition by subtraction. Getting rid of him is neutral. He isn't bringing much value, but he doesn't hurt them either. I think the only gain is budget space. I'd be shocked if Howson bends over and takes it so he can trade Commodore.

wilson clears

TSNBobMcKenzie: Whitfield (BOS). M.A. Bergeron (TB) and Wilson (CBJ) clear waivers. Commodore (CBJ) on waivers, Valabik (ATL) on re-entry waivers.

If there was a big move, how would Portzline know?? Howson doesn't tell him anything.

This. For sure, if he goes to AHL, whatever.

If someone claims him, we're stuck with 1/2 salary this season, fine.

Put Moreau on IR, and that 3 roster spots open with no re-calls.

Could this possibly be a Malkin sized deal???

Trade Wilson as a piece in the AHL, give up Brassard + ??? + ??? + a pick and get Malkin and ??? back????

Potential to be HUGE... but........ we have experienced Howson the patient before, so... I don't know.

I feel about as clueless as to who is starting in goal tomorrow.

If we're clearing roster spots, maybe we're unloading high draft picks for a good roster player or 2...

i feel fairly confident that any move won't be for malkin unless its in the offseason...Pittsburgh is playing too good right now...

Well, that's the question.

The point is, Commy isn't going to be in a trade because no one wants to give up anything of any value to get him.

I doubt that the "big" move would hinge upon Commodore being in the deal.

OTOH, I wonder if we'll see Moore get the call up...or one of the other young guys.

If someone claims him, they would be taking Commies full salary. If it was re-entry waivers, half the pay would be on the Blue Jackets.

We didn't trade Guenin to open up a spot for Commodore. We did it to give our young D prospects more ice time. Also, we didn't waive Commodore to have him take ice time away from our young D prospects.

If someone claims him, Jackets have no liability. If after 30 days, they want to bring him back up, then he must be placed on re-entry waivers, and if claimed, the Jackets would be responsible for half of his remaining contract.

Yeah I don't get the notion that Howson's freeing up roster spot for a big-time move that brings a star player in. That would result in even more empty/available roster spots, as it would take 2-3 roster players to get, for example, Malkin or 1 maybe 2 to get Richards. If we view freeing up roster spots as a precursor to a "big" deal, then wouldn't that mean more than one player coming in?

Right, I didn't sound myself out all the way there...

I meant, Commie is on waivers today. He gets re-called tomorrow and someone takes him for 1/2 salary, then the trade goes down.

Yeah. I have been wondering why people think we can trade for Malkin.

I think the biggest possible deal might be a David Booth, a Kris Versteeg (not likely) or an Alex Kovalev.

Edit: and I'd be thrilled with David Booth

Yes, but we have plenty of guys (Calvert, Kubalik, etc....) who we could call up.

I'm glad to see Commie waived-any trade will require taking another bad contract. Better to do re-entry waivers and clear some money and cap.

I'm prepared to be underwelmed by the "big trade".

I'm not sure, but I think that if he goes unclaimed, waivers won't apply to him for 30 days.

If it does, that kind of scenario seems likely.

Better chance has trade of Malkin. We are in the West and not big Pens` competitor. Ans we fight Dallas about PO.

I suppose Pens would want wingers not center. And probably it would be better to get more wingers than only Nash.

So, Huselius, Vermette (he can play in the wing too), Voráček + draft pick for Malkin

Filatovs value is more less his prize is too low now.

It will probably be something along the lines of Lasse Pirjeta for Brian Holzinger ala the trade deadline some years back.

Now THAT was a blockbuster.

Of course. But equating freeing up roster spots with a trade that sends away more players than it brings in doesn't make sense. You don't have to free up roster spots if you're trading away 3 to get 1.
