These things never work out, no matter what happens for some reason we end up completely screwed.

Hey we trade Halak and get Eller, yay a nice offensive prospect. JM rides him on the bottom lines, he does practically nothing the first 35 games, and now he's being benched. Same with Subban and it's going to be the same for every prospect who comes up to the big league.

Other teams catch big breaks, we don't.
Wish I could disagree but we see it all the time. Get ready to be used and abused after your AHL stint Leblanc, Kristo, etc. It's a joke how toxic the pro environment is in Montreal. Hamilton seems to develop guys alright these days, then they come to the Habs and whatever coach we have ruins them. When your job is as insecure as it is for most Habs coaches, you tend to get conservative and turns to veterans. And yet, the vets are always letting them down (see Carbo in 2009, Julien in 2006). Martin would rather play Moen every night and punish Eller while shuffling him between lines. Eller could've become an outright star on St. Louis but after being dealt to us, he'll have to settle for 3rd liner.

I wish he could come to NA right now. I wish monetary trades were allowed with the KHL during the season. But I hope he comes to Montréal next year, I've always been found of Emelin.

With our regular D's retired for the season or old and tired, or a rookies... (ouch) this thread becomes interesting. Can we not compensate his team? How much money's he making?

Same, I'll believe it when I see him in the lineup (either with the Habs or in Hamilton). Until then, not going to get too jazzed about it.

I believe it because this time Gauthier is the one in charge and not Gainey. I think that the biggest difference between is that Gauthier has more longterm then Gainey and his "5 year plans". The Halak trade is a great example, i think that Gauthier is drooling right now at the idea of having Emelin in the line-up.

If he wanted to be a Hab he'd have come over years ago to work his way up our system. Keep him away, please.

I don't believe it but I would LOVE it.

I think we can forget about Ramo. He'll get much more money in the KHL and much more playing time. He's stuck behind Price in Montreal and if Halak couldn't change it with an all-star performance I don't think Ramo can do it.

It may also be the Habs being a lot more agressive because he's progressed a lot the last 2 years, from starting as a #6-6 to a guy that could possibly play top 4 from pretty much day 1(with a couple months adjustments).

Detroit waited for guys like Zetterberg and Datsyuk...

I don't believe he'll come, but if he does, bring korneev with him and we can let gill and hamrlik go and infuse that younger d core.

Korneyev could fetch about $3.5-4M/year while Emelin would fetch somewhat lower. This means no Hamrlik and no Gill.

Why not just re-sign Markov ? **** Korneyev.

Emelin is more of what we need, even if Svitov beat the **** out of him.

It appears that Emelin has established himself in the KHL to the point where, if he comes overseas and it doesn't work out, he can always go back and be sure there's a job waiting for him. He's 24, about to enter his prime. If there's a time for him to see if he has what it takes (and if he likes it) in the NHL, this is as good as it gets.

Does anyone know what we'd be able to offer him? Is he subject to entry level limitations, or is it an open negotiation?

He has to sign a one-year EL contract. If the habs signs him, Emelin will want bonus with his contract, though.

He plays way too physical for the KHL. He must be getting frustrated getting so many penalties. He is better suited for NA. Hope he comes.
