Burns?

Hello Wild fan,

I was wondering since, I don't follow the west conference this year, if Brent Burn is for real or you think is only a fluke season.

I have only the chance to watch 1 game of Brent this year, he play well but hey is only one game, so is this the year of Brent Burns ''stardom''?

In my opinion this is how he was back before he got his concussion.

His shooting % is 18.8% so that could be a little flukey but he is scoring the same type of goals he always scored. He seems to be making less diving defensive plays but that could be because he isn't getting caught as much as he used to.

Yes he was like this before the concussion two years ago.

He would have more points, but our forwards suck, so when he moves the puck up nobody can bury it.

IMO he's a top 10, 15 defenseman in the league.

Two things to greatly consider pre concussion. He was voted the the top defensmen at the World Cup and was playing on a line with Shea Weber I believe during that tourney. He also was still being heavily considered to be on Team Canada by Stevie Y because of his grit but because he wasn't over his head issues (which we found out wasn't all concussion) they snubbed him. Imagine what Canada would have looked like with Weber-Burns again on the same line.

Burns is going to be one of those players which teams like Detroit or Philly would look to when their top defensemen retire.

And hopefully he will get resigned on a loooong term contract, making it unlikely that he will ever replace any Lids..

Sadly, picture what Burns could do if he was on a team like Detroit. depressing to think about that.

Burns wearing any sweater but a Wild one scares me, and I feel like it might happen.

I honestly don't think we have very much to worry about. From what I recall from numerous interviews he's had with Russo and others, he absolutely loves living here and has really rooted himself down with the wifey and the now daughter he has. I'd imagine he wouldn't want to move, and I would wager that Leopold and Fletcher are in agreement with that as well.

i think one of few good things the wild fans have is burns wanting to play for a mediocre team.

we're mediocre now?! things are looking up!

seriously, Burns is awesome--i'm talking franchise player. What Big T said holds--he is good enough for a team with great drafting and much success might be willing to offer up enough (in great young forwards/defensemen) to get him to fill an immediate need. He's got the feel for the game again and should be crawling into everyone's top ten lists next year. A top ten defenseman is worth a lot--whoever signs his next paycheck is going to be a lot of $ lighter.

Burns is so for real you should be ashamed you aren't following the Western Conference.

Didn't know he was that big of a fighter? I would assume the concussion and stuff might have transgressed him a little.

burns hasn't fought enough to be able to say he's "stopped". like asking if Boogaard has stopped scoring goals.

I'm sure the coaches tell him NOT to fight. Lemaire used to worry he'd break his hand. I'd rather have him on the ice for 25 minutes a night than sitting out for 4-6 weeks.

Like Chris Stewart via Brodziak...

Everyone loves a player who stands up for himself, but when it's all said and done, I agree with you 100%.

Players that important to their team have no business fighting.

i dunno. I loved the fact that he pitched in during that brawl with vancouver. I respect iginla a lot more because he's willing to fight when the need arises. Will it hurt the team? In most cases, yes--Especially with our D. Still, there are times to drop them and I'm sure Burns won't hesitate if the situation really calls for it.

I don't mind Burns dropping them when things are on the line. Like he did in the playoffs twice against Anaheim. As well as standing up for his teammates like above. But other than that, I don't believe he has any business fighting.

yeah, he isn't the staged fight sort, and he isn't going to drop them just because some punk is slashing at his ankle trying to start one.

Just don't pull his hair or you'll feel the wrath!

I'm just praying we can get Burns re-signed for something like 6-years, 30 million.

I'm going to guess six years and $40m. I don't think he'll get as many years or as much money as Koivu, but it will be REALLY close.

And I wouldn't be surprised at all if six years and $40m doesn't get it done either. I mean, look at Brian Campbell.

Brian Campbell was a known over-payment, though...

burns is going to get paid a lot. if he decides it's all about the money, no doubt he'd personally (financially) be better of waiting for FA. It'll be interesting. I was thinking something along the lines of Jaricks number. He can make that somewhere if he waits.

We all thought Koivu was going to be $5.5m to 6m though.

True but we also figured Koivu would have been signed for longer like every long cap contract in the last two years.
