don't expect to win a lot of games.....
that is, if whatever he has is minor and he misses only a few games...

:puke: Horrible, horrible news. This team could manage with one of their top D out for the year, but it's gonna be rough the rest of the year with two of them down.

just not our year

cant do damage in the playoffs without our#1, and our best shot-blocker and leader.

dont see gauthier doing much, they realize were not gonna win the cup this year, no point in trading away picks/prospects for rentals

I wouldn't envy PG's job right now. He has to try and make the playoffs, protect future assets and then offer contracts to both Markov and Gorges this summer. Not an easy task, especially when neither may be ready to play at the start of next season, and both will be coming off major knee surgeries. I see Boris Valabik is available on waivers. He reminds me a bit of Hal Gill, so maybe they could sign him to clean the crease for Price? This is just unbelievable. Such a promising start to the season, and now???
If there is a plus to this, it does give management an opportunity to evaluate the defensemen they have to see what they need going forward.

if i look at it as just entertainment, with no attachment to my team and winning, it does excite me to see how we are going to go about handling all these new challenges.

That's exactly what I've been doing since the beginning of the season, it's better that way (I also can't really follow the team much as I'd want to, due to a hectic schedule) I'm really excited to see how the defense core will look like next year.

Why are people just blaming the coach and team???
If gorges knew he was hurt that badly he could have said I AM NOT PLAYING
He has fault in this too

We all have 20-20 hindsight but this bad news begs the question if Gorges was hurt why not give him some rest and rehabilitation instead of benching PK Subban???

TSN is now reporting Price saying he's mentally and physically tired, are we flirting with another disaster by playing him so much?

I don't like many of the management decisions this season, eg dumping Cedrick Desjardins, who is 2-0 with TB and would have been a nice insurance policy. Ditto O'Byrne.

Sigh... Go Habs Go!!!

Gill also slowed down quite a bit for the same reasons. He played a role he couldn't play within his abilities.

But keep believing Martin's way of using Gorges, Gill and even Price is correct.

And for real irony, Gorges injury probably guarantees Jacques Martin will be back next year. Not likely a coach gets canned when his top 2 defensemen go down with season-ending injuries.

The only thing to blame for us losing a whole season, would be these 2 injuries.

And just like that injuries are becoming a big nightmare. Can't see how this team's gonna make the playoffs now.

Oh well, at least the young guys will play a lot.

Tough blow for sure. Time to see what the depth is all about while it will never replace guys of Gorges and Markov quality. But one thing is sure....we already know what the end of the year conference press will sound like. For whoever wanted a lot of changes next year, don't expect it.

I'm just stunned that Gorges had to miss every single practice for how many weeks now before he aggravated it. If he's too banged up to miss every practice, they had to realize and make him understand that he had to sit or get a special treatment way before this happens....

Why don't you try educating yourself before you bash people.

From TSN

Gauthier said. "We knew this was coming, we knew after Dec. 26 when his knee locked on the ice on Long Island, and from that point on we knew we'd have to replace him."

The injury happened on Dec 26, long after PK was benched.

Wow just wow.......we should just tank the rest of the season. No point making the playoffs without our 2 key guys on D.

But in all honesty, that kid looked damn good in the WHJC.

December 26 may be when the knee was aggravated, Gorges was missing practices with an "undisclosed injury" back in early December, maybe earlier.

Apology?

"Defenseman Josh Gorges (undisclosed) missed practice Monday (Dec 13) but told the Habs' website there's no way he's missing the game."

It wasn't aggravated, it was locked, at that point, is when he injured it and was done for the season more less.

Well that's what you get when you keep playing your injured players because they are "veterans" and bench your rookies. This D is going to get destroyed the way Martin plays them. Hamerlik will be next. Definitely thank Martin for this one and maybe the Med staff.
Subby has to step it up and Weber as well

Hammer Wiz
Gill Subban
Spacek Picard/Weber

.... not good, but maybe it will work out. Stranger things have happened. Our D was getting crowded...
